My Final Reflection This semester during Introduction to Group Communication, I have learned so much that I will be able to take with me throughout my life and career. There are a number of topics that I have found to be crucial in interacting with people on a professional level. There have also been a number of topics that I will be able to practice in my personal life at home, as a wife and mother. I have be asked to discuss only five topics as I reflect on this class. The topics that I am most passionate about are; Roles, Task and Social Dimensions, Decisions Making Techniques, Cohesiveness Of Your Group, and Leadership. At the beginning of the semester we were randomly placed into groups, selected by Professor Clennan. I was placed …show more content…
We worked well together, and always as a team. Working towards the same goal, to complete the assignment and project at hand. When Jessica did show up to the class and the meetings, I felt a definite tension in the group. Her not being prepared well caused a delay in the meeting, having to stop and explain where we were at was very frustrating. It slowed the flow of our meetings down. She wasn’t willing to make the commitment to us as a group. When it came time to present our solution, we were ready to not let her lack of commitment to our group ruin our cohesiveness. We decided as a group to not let her come forward with us when we gave our presentation on our …show more content…
I came into this class at the beginning of the semester, thinking I would be able to go unnoticed and just complete my work. The first few meetings I was shy and didn’t disclose too much information, either about myself or my ideas. While working on our problem, I really became passionate about the issue. I saw myself taking charge during the meetings. I still didn’t want to be noticed by the group. Then the day came that we had to present our solution to the problem. I stepped up and lead the group in front of the whole class, up in the front of the room. I feel that my leadership approach is definitely a democratic style. I wanted equal participation from all of my group

Hi Professor, For the Group-Led Discussion I did the introduction. I emailed the whole group on March 5 before spring break so we could get started on the assignment because spring break was coming up. Right away I got an email from Giselle she helped to explain what needed to be done for the assignment. The following day I got an email back from Paige saying she would like to answer question 3.…

    Socratic Seminar

The Socratic Seminar that took place this past Monday, in regards to “Where I Lived, and what I Lived For” by Henry David Thoreau was in my opinion just one example of how much our class needs to improve when it comes to group discussions and analyzations. There is much room for improvement when communicating one’s ideas and opinions, not only in the class but also in myself and this seminar served as good practice. Of course, there were obstacles that were insurmountable when it came to running a smooth seminar such as class size and the number of people discussing at once but some common courtesies were ignored. The sheer number of side conversations that occurred at any one moment was quite troublesome for me personally, as I saw other people actively participating in the group discussion while others were treating them with great disrespect by not paying attention and periodically interrupting them before they could properly explain their input. Remaining on track also seemed to be a constant difficulty that we had to contend with.…

When most of the work on individual parts of the topic was done, one of our group members informed us that he had to withdraw from the course due to personal circumstances. Now the work of four people had to be divided among three of us. Even at that point our group was working hard, despite the numerous assignments in other courses. Another frustration with the assignment hit me when the deadline for submitting the assignment was change to three days earlier right before the date for submission. At that point our group had little to no time to combine all individual parts together, proofread and submit the assignment.…

For example, if Maria did slide 5 it would make sense for her to work on slide 6, because had a large amount of slides it was difficult to know who slide was who especially when we present we unfortunately had two member of the group absent. I would personally on my part who have liked for group to know more about everyone else’s slides because we mainly focus on own slides, we honestly did not pay the sufficient amount attention on the other slides as we should have had. Frankly, as well the group did lack because we so confident we had over a three weeks to work on the project we did procrastinate and at the end it affect us rashing despite the rush the project did have a positive outcome nevertheless I regret not using time wisely. There was an individual who did not bring forward enough effort has they should have had and it would have been obliging especially since we had so many articles that were mandatory to have knowledge of. David was the go to person for every questions or concern I had, he made sure everyone knew what their task was and would ask constantly if anyone had a…

Group Reflection 4 This week’s group was really interesting for me. As a group we experienced our first bit of “conflict” in our group. However, I did not actually feel like there was much of the conflict but more of a misunderstanding. Personally, I don’t have a problem with the way the co-leaders run the group.…

My experience in COMM 2367 this semester was an important one for not only my educational career but for my life after the classroom. It helped me reconnect with the task of group work, helped me overcome my fear of public speaking, and much more that I will be discussing through this reflection paper. This communication class did not only help me complete a second writing course but also helped me learn how to use persuasion tactics in a writing and a speaking fashion. I have learned that persuasion is used in multiple different forms.…

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending and receiving information between two or more people. It is a person-to-person contact, it includes everyday exchange that may be formal or informal and can take place anywhere by means of words, sounds, facial expression, gestures and postures. Two significant learning points for me during this course was in module 3, using the I-language instead of you-language which gives power over our thoughts, feelings and emotions to others. To take responsibility for your own feelings, rely on I language rather than you language. I language owns thoughts and feelings and does not blame them on others (Wood 125).…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

Introduction Growing up I made choices referring to the majority thinking of a group. As I got older, I became aware of "group thinking". I am confident in making my own choices and decisions in groups because of my line of profession, which I am required to voice my opinion or suggest new ideas. Today I am more confident to make my own decisions without being persuaded by "group thinking".…

There are many different ways you can prepare for a role play but planning ahead is a huge part of role play.
