My practicum is in the Wappinger Falls District, at Brinckerhoff Elementary School. At my school, I have been learning a lot about what a school psychologist does and how the job varies across the board. Thus far, I have been exposed to a lot of assessments, functional behavior assessments, individualized education plans, counseling, and attending many meetings about students with staff and parents. My supervisor is new to the school, and I have been learning about what it’s like to start in a new school with fresh eyes, and figuring out your role. My supervisor used to work out of district, and she was moved to this school this coming school year. We have been learning together on what her role entails, which has been challenging yet rewarding. It has been challenging because there is no …show more content…
During practicum, I have been using data collection for Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs). Functional Behavior Assessments data collection and progress monitoring are very important in order to determine if students are making any progress in regards to their behaviors that are problematic to the teacher, and/or other students. Based on the data that we collect, we decide on the behaviors that we want to focus on with the teacher. When using data collection, technology resources are being used to determine if the data shows an increase or decrease in targeted behaviors. Moving forward during my practicum, I would like to expand my knowledge in different data collection options. Currently I have been using simple methods of collecting data. As I shadowed the counselor at Tucker Middle School for a summer program, I realized that some of the benefits of implementing early intervention and RTI (Response to Intervention) for children with early signs of a learning disability is serious topic. Instead of just placing students in special education programs educators must assess and evaluate students, as well as trying early intervention programs which help delay disabilities or stop the disability from forming or progressing. I’ve always heard a little about the RTI, but one that differed from what I have encountered in the school system is the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). This allows a systematic process for gathering information that helps determine the relationship between…

Within many cultures, people can define what constitutes functional behavior. Colombia’s society, similar to the United States, incorporates different parts of the system like family, education, government, and religion to maintain social stability. As such, homosexuality is viewed as dysfunctional in the Colombian social system, regardless of the more recent laws on the books for gay rights. Traditionally, Colombia’s culture is based in the religious teaching of Catholicism, though the government has been working towards a comparable legislations like America. As a transfer student from Bogota, Columbia, my interviewee said, “Colombia likes to mimic America in their government, but the different parts our society does not influence each other…

In addition to an evaluation of Matthew’s cognitive processing skills, an assessment of his social and emotional functioning was also collected to determine how these factors may be contributing to his overall functioning in school. The Behavior Assessment System for Children, Third Edition (BASC-3) self-report (SRP-A), parent report (PRS-A) and teacher report (TRS-A) were administered to Matthew, Mrs. Sluka and Mr. Pennisi (Resource Room teacher). Methodology Research Design Objectivism versus Constructivism Objectivism has been the main framework in many fields including education and HRM. Traditional approaches to learning and human relationships are based on behaviouristic and cognitive theories that hold philosophical assumptions of objectivism. The main assumptions of objectivism are the following. First, a real world exists which is made of entities with properties and relations; also, properties predict their categorisation (Jonassen, 1992). Second, the real world can be modelled due to its full structures (Clegg, 2017).…
