Countless individuals have both arrived and faded throughout my lifetime. However, there are a few individuals that have had a significant impact on my life, and still continue to influence my lifelong decisions. Although male role models, such as my father, uncles, and grandfathers have become people who protect and sometimes provide for me, I am certain that the female role models of my family have ultimately helped mold me into a person that I am proud to be today. There are two women, aside from my mother, that have contributed to my life and development.
The first person that I will introduce is my grandmother, Maria Quintero, whom has crucially impacted my life since infancy. She is a strong, compassionate, and loving woman who took …show more content…
She is the one who has contributed to the development of my current morals. Maria Quintero is a big part of who I am today as a person because she has supported me in all my ambitions and has lifted me up when I did not even know I had fallen. She has been there to wipe away the tears and has laughed and enjoyed every moment with me as a child. I recall the hot summer days when she would fill the kiddie pool and serve me watermelon cubes on the poolside. This woman had given me the security of knowing that I was not loved by one mother, but multiple extraordinary women. I always remember being a really shy child. I would sometimes get criticized for being such a serious little girl, but they would never get away with it while my grandmother was around. She always knew what to say and what to do if I was ever in any kind of trouble. Instead of tearing me down for being such a quiet person, she guided me toward being more outgoing and intelligent when it came to responding to rude people. My grandmother always said, “90% of communication is nonverbal.” By that she meant all I had to do was make sure that I smiled and used positive body language. This kind of advice helped me to become a good listener in the future.

I recall my senior year in high school as a stressful period in my life because I had no idea what kind of major I wanted to commit to, therefore it made it difficult for me to pick a specific college that met my various needs as a student. Luckily, my aunt was there to help guide me toward a school that fit my specific needs. I ended up picking San Jose State University over University of Santa Cruz because when she took me to visit each campus, I immediately felt that San Jose State was where I saw myself graduating from. No matter what campus I chose, my aunt supported me and gave me a positive outlook on any situation. She gave me a sense of invulnerability which made me realize a valuable life lesson that I still live by today. It does not matter where I start, all that matters is where I end up. Her words resonate with me as I continue my academic journey.
The experiences and life lessons that I have learned from these two women have pushed me to strive for my own personal success in the goals I aspire most for.
