My Fear of Writing
Writing has always been intimidating to me, and I am working towards overcoming that. I was homeschooled my whole childhood, and learned I learned to avoid writing because it would frustrate my mother whenever I made mistakes. She would make feel very unintelligent and inadequate because I was behind the curve in writing. Instead of using my circumstances to motivate me, I stopped doing schoolwork at 14 years old, became a carpenter, and made a lot more money than all of my friends. But when I was 17 years old, I saved my first life. I remember being covered in vomit and blood when the paramedic told me I was the reason that person was going to make it. In that moment, I realized I was going to have to face my fear of writing

Suzanne Laverick Harrington’s article “Our own stories- One teacher’s writing journey: Hey I’ve been there,” from The Reading Teacher (1998) explains that writer’s block, can be fixed if teachers were able to boost the confidence of their students. Harrington first backs her assertion with ways to prevent writer’s block with an antidote that works for her; second, with an explanation of her own struggles as an obsessed writer; and lastly, through her experience working with students who are “paralyzed with fear” in a classroom. Her purpose of writing this article is to inform rookie writers to not fear this so called disease as a way of giving up on the one thing they love. Even though Harrington writes this article to writers, her way of writing and her eye catching title attracts young college students who are struggling with their writings who crave help for their ideas to flow into their own work.…

Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

When writing, I struggle with many things. One of my hardest struggles is grammar and meeting word minium requirements. When writing I get distracted by trying to keep up with the word count, and lose focus on everything else that is just as important than the amount of words that I am required to have. Throughout my years of writing, I was taught to, first write everything down that comes to mind while our juices are flowing. After, I use this technic, then shortly after I run out of thoughts and my paper turns into crap.…

I hated writing. And believe me, I still do hate writing even right now. Imagine yourself being in college a writing class with a tired body and a tired mind because you had early morning classes already. Even worse, the professor gives you writing assignment that has to be at least three pages long. I can already hear your whining voices and complaints, but once you start writing papers, it would not be difficult to write because it is in your language.…

When I Learned to Read and Write. I first started reading and writing in preschool, my teacher was very helpful and did everything she could do to help me achieve goals, and become who I am today. When I was younger I would pretend that I could read and I would read to all of my toys. In preschool, my teacher saw me trying to read so she came over to me and started to help me sound out the words and form the sentences so that I could read. The first book I read was Dr.Seuss’ “Green, Eggs and Ham.”…
