Short Essay On Dog Cato

Last year in May I got my first dog, Cato. Cato is miniature Dachshund, or weiner dog, with a black coat and dark tan markings. I got Cato only because after a series of circumstances I became the only person willing to take care of him. I was the only person willing to take care of him because of a few behavioral issues that made him an undesirable pet to most, if not all, other people. He has a few issues and I was often reminded that he’s my, and mine only, responsibility. I got Cato from my grandmother. My grandmother didn’t want him because got him for my cousin who never took good care of him. While he was with my cousin and grandmother he was heavily neglected. Cato always had food and water but almost completely year round he was locked outside and ignored. My grandmother got him from another person, in total, Cato had four owners before I got him when he was five years old. Since he had so many owners before me, he had never been able to formulate a strong bond with humans because they never heavily interacted with him. My family and I have done research to see if he could’ve suffered brain damage from heat stroke or dehydration. After doing all of the research the only thing we could find that matched his demeanor and his body shape is Down Syndrome. We’ve yet to take him to get tested because we don’t have the money. It’s the only explanation that we have for the odd slope of his head, his issues with hearing and sight, bathroom issues, and his inability to think about something other than his toys.
