She was independent, strong, and smart. She never shied away from showing her intelligence either because of the color of her skin or the texture of her hair. Every step of the way through her journey, she was herself. She never forgot where she came from or the true nature of herself. The reason why I decided to write about this intelligent woman is because she truly inspires and teaches me. She inspires me to not be afraid of what I see in the mirror and seek to diminish my appearance for the approval of others. She shows me that pain can one day turn into joy and opportunities the next. I remember reading her works when I was younger, and the way she grabbed my attention through her pain was something that I had never experienced. In one of my favorite poems by her called Men, she talks about the way she viewed men and how they attacked her. Without even knowing her background, the reader is able to sense some sort of pain or heartache by the words she chooses to say. We all go through heart aches sometimes in our life, but reading and viewing Angelou’s life, she provides those out there with no voice, a voice. Dr. Maya Angelou was a woman who always strived for better, even when she was knocked down, she would always stand back up, and without people like her in this world, we would not stand where we do today.
The wisest woman the world came to adore and love, Maya Angelou, passed away on May 28, 2014. No one can ever compare to her. She was something brought to the world from the heavens to inspire people of every race and gender that when you thrown down it is alright to acknowledge that pain, but instead of letting it hold you down, stand up with your head as high as the clouds and your feet moving one after the other because nothing lasts
