When my father moved to America, he would help his youngest siblings by sending them money to help raise their children. As his siblings’ kids have gotten older they wanted to flee the country to go to Europe by traveling to Libya, then taking a boat through the Mediterranean Sea to get to Italy. My father told them that he would not help financially if they decided to make the trip because it was too dangerous. They decided to embark on the trip regardless and called my father from Libya for money to help pay human traffickers to take them over the Mediterranean Sea to get to Italy.
