My Father's Game Analysis

My father has been a St. Louis Blues season ticket holder for over 20 years now. He began taking me to Blues hockey games when I was a nothing more than a toddler. Our family has bled blue for as long as I can remember, despite the 49 year Stanley Cup drought. Attending a hockey game with my father has always been a treat. When I was that toddler sitting in the back of my father's car on the way to the Savvis center for a Blues game, we always listened to the pre-game show on KMOX; listening to the pre-game has become somewhat of a religious tradition for us. During the car ride to a pre-season game prior to the 2015-2016 Blues season, my father mentioned to me that he was going to be out of town and would miss the home opener against the Edmonton Oilers. “Would you want to go with a friend?” he asked me. I quickly responded with “Of course!” I wasn't going to miss a Blues home opener for anything. After I dug the tickets out of the season ticket envelope the night of the home opener, I nervously called my friend to let him know I was leaving to pick him up. I’d only had my …show more content…
It was virtually impossible to see the lines on the road (a broken wiper blade didn't help the cause), making navigation stressful. On a normal night, getting to the stadium takes about half an hour. On this rainy opening night, it became a 45 minute affair. I never knew how much I truly relied on my dad until that night, trying to navigate downtown St. Louis and looking for a parking spot. I chose the cheap ten dollar parking lot that my father had always parked at because, as he would say, “walking an extra half mile is better than spending $20.” I paid the young man for the spot before I realized it required the car to be parallel parked. I had never been so stressed in my life. After receiving a few angry honks from testy city drivers, I somehow managed to parallel park for the first

Tom Farrey, in chapter 4 of Game On: The All-American Race to Make Champions of our Children asserts that unstructured play can benefit children in long term athletic competition more than the methods of youth sports today. He argues that the parents of today’s society are pushing children into highly competitive athletics which aren’t even producing results, compared to other countries with different approaches. On page 86 he introduces the French Football Federation in Clairefontaine which is highly esteemed in producing professional soccer players for France. The Federation practices methods similar to the ideas manifested in Dr. Istvan Balyi’s research which finds that long term benefits reap from later exposure to competition in youth…

Now I was by far a big fan myself, but I had kept track of the postseason run, and I knew how big this game was to my friends. Eventually, the first pitch was thrown, and the game was off. 2 throws later, Dexter Fowler hit the first lead off home run…

The game mode MyCareer also implicitly teaches that humbleness and selflessness are desirable traits in a professional background through how teammates and social media act around DJ. Time and time again the game reiterates that greatness comes from hard work and struggle. It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…

Gone Home is a narrative exploration game by the company Fullbright that stars Kaitlin Greenbriar returning to her family home after being overseas. Gone Home is often questioned on the complexity of its game play, and is often thought to be more of an interactive story, however it does fulfill the requirements of a game and I will be discussing various game play mechanics in Gone Home such as the different objects and their attributes, rules for game play and the overall design that help to support the narrative, as well as how all of this is used to create an effective story and why this is the best medium for such a story. I will start by giving the briefest of summaries; the game opens with Kaitlin, who we control in a first person perspective, returning home to a locked house all set in the 90s Their is a note left…
