My Father's Eulogy

Improved Essays
It was a beautiful Sunday morning, my two children and I were sitting in the front pew, as we often do, watching my charismatic husband give another wonderful sermon. My gorgeous daughter, Mia, was sitting on my right, attentively hanging off of each of her father’s words. She is a true Daddy’s little girl, you would think at thirteen years old she would have out grown her infatuation with her father, but nope; she is still his little sweet heart. My dashing son, Zach, was sitting on my left. He isn’t much interested in church these days; I guess at sixteen other things become much more important than silly old church. But no matter how much he detests coming, he knows it makes his father proud to see him here. As for myself, I am the proud …show more content…
Everything appeared as it should so I strolled over to the broom closet to retrieve a dust rag. I grabbed the rag and went back to wipe down all the pews. This is god’s house and must keep it as pure as his love. As I am diligently wiping down all the pews, I hear a soft voice say, “Um, Mrs. Malone?” Still tending to the pews, I turn my head to look over my shoulder and see a frail young woman. She can’t be no older than twenty years old. She looks disheveled, timid even. She appears to feel out of place, possibly scared. I immediately stop what I am doing, while still holding the rag I stand up and say, “Yes, can I help you?” In a frightened voice, she replied “Um, Hi. Could you help me. I,I,I……” I interrupted her as I walked closer to her. “My dear, what is wrong? Are you in danger? Did someone hurt you?” I asked compassionately as I placed my right hand on her shoulder. Quietly she spoke, “yes,” as she bowed her head and tears rolled down her face. I grabbed her, locking her in my embrace as she laid her head on my shoulder and sobbed. As I rubbed her back I said, “listen baby, everything will be alright. I am going to take you to the kitchen where my daughter, Mia, and some nice women from the congregation will sit you down and get you something to eat. I will run to my home, quickly, and retrieve some fresh clothes for you to wear. Once everything is all settled down my husband and I will talk to you and see how we can help.” I felt her nod her head yes in my shoulder, “okay dear,” I said as I lead her to the

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

There are little bits and pieces of day to day life that I think of fitting together like a puzzle in order to form who we are. Some of the bigger events can have a profound ripple effect and can even change the way we perceive our friends, family and the world around us. Some of these changes are more subtle or subconscious, while others are very apparent such as a new job or a death. The most recent of these events was my grandmother passing.…

“This is what I most admire about Father: no matter how bad things might get, he eventually will find the grace to compose himself. Some people find him overly stern and frightening, but that is only because he was gifted with such keen judgment and purity of heart. He has been singled out for a life of trail, as Jesus was. Being always the first to spot flaws and transgressions, it falls upon Father to deliver penance. Yet he is always ready to acknowledge the potential salvation that resides in a sinner’s heart.…

The room itself was bright, but all the brown eyes feasted upon me made me feel as though I was sitting in the coldest and darkest room. I sat in the middle of the freshly furnished room, the purple chair I sat in used to be soft but now it felt like hell. The youth group, filled with non-denominational teenagers, was supposed to be an open place free of judgement. This was the sole reason I walked into the brand new church with my uncle two years ago.…
