Life Changing Experience In Life

I was in fifth grade when my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. By the time we found out, he was already in his final stage. We booked tickets to India and left within a few weeks. Two months later, my grandfather passed away. This was a life changing event for me; it was the first time someone this close to me had passed away and I always wondered if he was diagnosed earlier would he still be here?
A year and a half later my father also got ill. Being the eldest child in my family, I was responsible for taking care of my younger siblings while my parents were at the hospital. Afterwards, when I was in middle school my mom got pregnant with her fourth child and was in bed rest, and when I was in high school she underwent three major surgeries. Both …show more content…
Some of my mom’s aunts and uncles live there and we were on our way to visit them. When we arrived, I was really shocked at their living conditions. Although they had houses, they were very small and cramped, holding just bare necessities. My mom 's cousins and uncles would be out all day working on a farm and trying to make enough money to raise their children. It made me think of how blessed I am, having a nice house to live in and more than enough clothes and food, and at that moment I decided that I wanted to share that blessing with others.
When I got back to Washington, the school year had already started. I got busy looking for community service opportunities and volunteered wherever I could. Then, in 2011 a new organization started in our community, The Muslim Community Resource Center (MCRC). I became involved with this organization, packing food packs for needy families or conducting gift drives during the holidays. Now, I am the youth director of that same organization, organizing projects in which the youth in our community can participate in. I really enjoy helping others and seeing the smiles it
