Narrative Essay About Grandpa

It is the year 2002, my great grandpa was still alive and I frequently visited his farm with my father. This is a story about the events leading up to one visit that was very much like most visits. I was a young quick witted five-year-old bursting with energy. The summer was bright and filled with the joy of youth. I awoke in the morning and did my usual routine of showering getting dressed and brushing my teeth before venturing my way upstairs past the green walls of the corridor, the red walled stairway up to the blue of the top floor. My mother was in the office down the corridor doing work. She worked at home so she could take care of my brother and I while my dad was away at work. As I entered the office I asked my mom, “Mother can you …show more content…
I leaped off of the chair and ran to the sofa where I plopped myself on its cushiony goodness and continued watching my cartoons. Now another one of my favorite shows was on, Scooby doo. A show about a talking dog and his gang of mystery solving adventures traveling far and wide to unmask the ghosts, goblins and ghouls and all other evil doers alike to find out there were just regular people under those horrible costumes. Showing that the real monsters in this world are people. Always ended in the villains proclaiming something along the lines of “I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids”. I was always ecstatic with joy watching these shows, I loved watching cartoons in the morning, or afternoon, or anytime really they always were …show more content…
We grabbed the dog and hoped into the truck and went off down the road. After a while we got to the dirt road leading to the farm and we out let my faithful dog and he ran beside us to my Great Grandpa’s farm. That was a workout he loved to do so much. He loved bounding through the ditches beside us at breakneck speed. His tongue lolling to the side as he ran and only stopping from running beside us to relieve himself. As we reached the farm I jumped out and gave him a good pet and we ran around quick before going into the farmhouse, the dog waiting outside. As me and my father entered the farm house we saw my grandpa sitting on the chair that he loved to spend his time on recollecting old

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

After the fight that Jeannette’s mom and dad had. The mom got up with the kids and applied for a job at the Battle Mountain Intermediate School and was hired on the spot because she had a teaching degree. Her mother hated teaching because her own mother was a teacher and pushed her into getting a degree in that so she would have a job to fall back on if her plans on being an artist failed. She was so angry that her mother might’ve been right all along. The only thing that really unsettled me was when she was trying to Miss Beatty that she was capable of disciplining her students.…

The Influence of Grandpa There have been a few life events that have taken place that that will drive me to reach my academic goals at Colorado Christian University; one in particular; a visit involving my Grandpa. As a child his influence played a major role in my life, and even from beyond the grave he has influenced me to strive to fulfill what I was meant to do in life. First of all there are a few things about me you need to know. Upon graduating High School in 2004, I applied and was accepted to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Initially, I wanted to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, because of my desire to help people in need.…

Like so many children I grew up hearing stories of the past from my grandparents, at the time little did I know how the events that occurred in a small brick building had greatly affected my life. The story starts with my grandparents in the early eighties. My grandfather, in his fifties, realized he wanted more for his family than what driving a Pepsi truck could provide while having a late midlife crisis. He was confident and determined he could do more with his life (a combination that would prove successful years later.) He promptly quit his job, much to my grandmother’s dismay, and took out a loan for the payment for a convenience store on the Mantachie - Mooreville city line.…

Self-reflective essay. “We should all have one person who knows how to bless us despite the evidence; Grandmother was that person to me” (Phyllis Theroux). I was thrust kicking and screaming into this world on the 26th of February 1997 in Auckland, New Zealand. With my father having gotten lost on his way to the hospital, and then accosted by a Maori man, he barely made it there for my birth so it all turned into a rather stressful affair. My grandmother on my mother’s side, Glenys Hopkinson, who lived in New Zealand, has definitely been an influential person in my life.…

My Amazing Grandma Most people could say that the perfect grandmother does not exist. I actually disagree. What I know for a fact is that my grandmother is perfect. My grandmother is perfect in every way; the way she dresses, the way she moves, the way she behaves, the way she speaks, etcetera. Sometimes, I just think that it could be great, if I could be a little bit of what she is.…

As I was assigned to this essay, I was actually quite worried and nervous because I do not normally ask my relatives about their childhood. It was a strange thing for me to call up my grandfather who is in a different country. The person I chose to do is my maternal grandfather because there seems to be something about him that I connect with more and am able to talk to simply. Anyway, doing this project has actually made me sad and upset because I realize that everyone has a life, but it takes a question to know about the life. There were so many things I learned about my grandfather that I really did not know about because I have been so oblivious and selfish.…

Trevor returned with my chai tea and handed it to me smiling. We had been dating 4 years, since we were 20. We had so many great memories, but I still thought it was odd that I was going to meet his family for the first time this weekend for his 25th birthday. He had never talked much about them, I would ask and he would tell me as little as possible then change the subject. He seemed to hate, not the hate like I want them to die or anything just like he resented them for making him do something he never wanted to do.…

Think for a moment about someone with whom you are particularly friendly with and discuss what you like about them and how the relationship got started. We first met when we were freshmen in highschool, I was a new student that year and didn’t know anyone. I met this person from the group of friends I fell into on the first day, we all become close and still talk everyday. But what I like about this certain person from my friend group, is that we play off each other very well, we always have comebacks for each and we pretty much just bicker all the time. The bickering is the main part of our relationship, but it’s not in a mean way it’s fun and lighthearted, were pretty much just messing with each other.…

I can’t say that our family history has been shared among the younger generation very much. And if it was, I was very young and don’t really remember much of the tales. There are a lot of holes that I have wanted to fill for a while. Funny enough my plan is to go visit my grandmother after this semester, to get her to record our history for the future generations in our family.…
