It just so happens that both of my grandparents on my Father 's side were born in March in 1936 in the same town. My grandmother was a first generation American her parents had emigrated from Poland in the early 1900 's, they wanted a better life and at that time, there were rumors of World War II making its way into Poland. The church played a large role in how they were raised and what values were taught in both my grandmother and grandfather 's families. My grandmother was always taught to serve the church and their community that there was always someone she could be helping even if it was just offering food or a place to stay. This value of wanting to help people was transferred over when my grandmother like her mother before her decided to become a nurse. My grandfather had a very similar upbringing as my grandmother since they were both Polish and lived in the same town. He took more of an active part within the church becoming an altar boy for seven years and was very strict in upholding his religious values. He went to school when he was only four years old and he graduated high school at age sixteen. He would not go to college for many years and only has completed some of his undergraduates. He worked odd jobs for the longest time until he joined the army, however, by 1955 he was discharged he blew his eardrum out. He was a second generation American his father was a car salesman and when money was tight his father would deliver bread for

My grandfather was born in 1923, and his mother (my great grandmother) was Weronika (Veronika) Biernacki. Weronika Biernacki’s maiden name was Karmanska. She was born February 16, 1893 in Konstantinow. The exact location of her birth remains nearly impossible to decipher because Poland as a nation did not exist when she was born, though this town is presumably located within the borders of Poland in the 21st century. My great grandmother died on August 2nd, 1971.…

During elementary and the first year of middle school I still did not know how to read in English, I was just passed along from grade to grade without even knowing how to read a children’s book. As the years went on my parents bought a restaurant and I started my high school years working not just only on my academic and many afterschool organizations and clubs but as a dishwasher and bus girl every weeknight and weekend.
