Around in the late of May, I’ve suffered a huge lost in my family. I lost 2 generations all in the same week. What are the odds of that happen? I lost my grandpa, and my great grandpa in that order. The way I received the news was pretty hard on me because the night my grandpa passed away I was out with my friends the whole night. When I walked through the front door I immediately heard my dad crying in his room since his room was to the left as soon as you walk in. In my head I thought he needeed his personal time as a man, and to reflect. I went straight to my room my sister must had heard me coming inside the house, so she comes to me to let me know on what’s happening. When she told me that my great grandpa had passed away I was shocked, …show more content…
I knew what I had to do I just needed to put everything now into play. I started doing my research on what are green flags, and the red flags in a diabetic’s diet. I knew that diabetes is manageable, and if one keeps up the good habits over a period of time they would no longer have to worry about anything unfortunate happening. With these 3 events unfolding into my life has made a huge impact into my life. I knew I had to help my dad get back into a healthier state because I would not let him turn out the same. I’ve made the internet my best friend having to search up what fruits or food my dad could eat. I normally don’t read much on my free time now I’m reading the nutrition facts looking for how much sugar and salt are in all these products? Having to ask if they could remove certain stuff off the food that we knew was bad, and having it made a certain way. I was tired of not being able to do anything. Now that I look at my dad I see him a whole different. He’s came a long way losing weight, eating healthier, and becoming better. Both of us are happy with it, but we would be happier once he beats it. I wish I could have helped him from the start rather than waiting until the last minute, but I’m still glad with results that I

I finished reading the first five chapters of Cheating Destiny, Living with Diabetes. I enjoyed a lot while reading this book since we finished the diabetes part of diabetes and metabolic syndrome class, the information that conveyed from this book makes much sense to me. I especially like the third chapter, The Burden of Control. In this chapter, the author discussed the effectiveness and risk of tight control of blood glucose in diabetic patients. As the author introduced in this chapter, the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) featured the benefits overweigh risks in tight control in diabetic patients.…

My father was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and the way it affected him sparked my interest in medicine. At GCSE level, I learnt that diabetes results when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin to maintain a normal blood glucose level. Further interest led me to learn that the most common drug used is metformin, reducing the amount of glucose released. Currently the only way to delay/prevent diabetes in people who may have genetic predispositions to it is by maintaining a healthy weight. Recently, a study in Diabetologia showed that obese people with prediabetes could improve their metabolic health, by avoiding AGE products.…

My mother was sitting next to me on the phone as she began to cry, I had asked her what was wrong and she quickly told me to go upstairs. I sat in my room and I tried to think of what made her so upset, as I had only seen her cry once before. My curiosity led me back downstairs and once again I asked her what was wrong and she replied this time. She explained to me that two weeks ago my grandfather had suffered a major heart attack and my grandmother just underwent some blood test that came back positive for cancer.
