My Family: My Unique Meaning Of Family

Improved Essays
Family has a unique meaning no matter what culture it possibly can be. I never had a chance to meet my extended family from my mother’s side because her parents passed away before I was born and she was the only child in her household. I grew up with only spending parts of the day with my father and the other half with my mother. Other peers in places that I would go to school with thought my family was together because they were more involved in what I liked to do when I was younger. When I was younger I always thought families were supposed to be traditional with two parents of the opposite sex and thought that all families had the typical mother and father in their lives. I would describe my family as being a blended family. My brother has a different father than me and even though this is the case he still considered family. This aspect is important in my concept of family because even if I do not talk to them everyday I still have this connection where they will support the decisions that I want to make even if it is no what everyone agrees with. On all contrary, there is definitely diversity with having a blended family especially since they have been a part of most of my life. I have seen my family stick there through it all and do not leave you even when times get rough which is why this diversity makes a great impact and shapes me into the person I am. I consider my first cousins, aunts, and uncles family because they are blood related but other than that we distance each other because of only speaking to my father every now and then. These members still have culture based rituals that have impacted my family into the way that we are and can shape us into a family as well. Certain cultures only have exclusive members as part of their family. I do not exclude my relatives out that I do not communicate with any more because they did some sort of impact in my life and willing to not be against me. Sometimes my family treats some of my close friends as family members because of the amount of support that they can give me. It makes my family unique because even though I do not have many members on both sides of the family I still have friends that treat me like I am part of their

Everyone has a family of some kind. It may be the parents and siblings they were born with, or it could be a gang of six elite drivers with an affinity for robbing banks at high speeds. Ultimately, family is what people make of it, and it can be the ‘traditional’ two parents, one brother, one sister, and one dog, or it could be a girl and a baby she was left with. Barbara Kingsolver’s The Bean Trees is the story of a poor Kentucky girl with small town thoughts and big town dreams who escapes her hometown without getting pregnant, but manages by the hand of fate to be left with a child that was never her’s in the first place.…

In society, a family is made up of two or more members, that can be related by blood, marriage, or adoption. But around the world some people have a family that is different from other's based on the way their culture has taught them to be. A better way to understand the meaning of family is to apply the three major sociological theories. The way to understand this theory by applying it to family is the incest taboo that makes mandatory to look for a partner from a different family that is not your own.…

She says that even if someone maintains cultural practices with another country that should not define someone 's ethnic identification. However, someone who comes from Germany or Russia will not be identified as European American.
