Community Service Experience In My Life

I was told all my life to be the best at anything I do. My father especially told me to smart and really challenge myself to be better; to always keep learning something new. He would always give me examples of how he would always try to learn something new at work so he could be more valuable to the company and not get fired. My parents have also taught me to be grateful for what I have and give thanks to God for another day. In my family I am the only girl and have three older brothers. You could say life growing up was different, from learning how to play football, to learning how to defend myself from my brothers. I come from a typical Mexican family, my parents migrated to the United States from Mexico in order to pursue the “American Dream”. My father and mother received an education to about the fourth grade. They were both taken out of school because both of their fathers had passed away. Sometimes it is hard to see my parents struggle with financial stability but, they always have faith in God. It 2012 when my mother had an accident at work, she slipped and landed on her knee wrong. One community service activity that made in impact on my life was volunteering at Dorian Assisted Living Place, it is a home for the elderly. It was my junior year when I first volunteered there with NHS, it was around the spring time when a group of NHS students went. I remember talking to the elderly people and they were telling me some amazing stories of their childhood or their children; their faces would light of with joy talking about their lives. It made me realize that when we are old and have nobody we could always use some happiness in our lives.
