My family is like many Hispanic families that live in Laredo, Texas. We celebrate with cookouts or “carne asadas” instead of going to restaurant to have a nice dinner. We are a loud family of 8 that not always lived in Texas. Before I was even born, both my mother and father lives in Nuevo Laredo, Tamalupias in Mexico. Like many parents at that time, my parents would frequently travel to Laredo, Texas. When my mother got pregnant with my older sister and her first child she decided she wanted to move to the United States so my sister could grow up here.
My parents didn’t have much money so they decided to buy a small piece of land that belonged to a junk yard. Up to this day if you dig a hole in my yard pieces of old automobiles will pop out.
