The term “family” is not only defined by bloodline. We use the term “family” to described athletic teams, best friends, gang members, and other peer groups. This is evidenced by the following texts: the memoir, A Long Way Gone, by Ishmael Baeh, the video, “The Best Locker Room Speeches of Week 17”, and the article, “My Gang, My Family” by Rowenna Davis. Family is defined by the following characteristics: respect, hugs, leadership, common bonds.
