My Family Genogram

The sketch of my family’s genogram has given me insight into the history of the third, second and the first generation of children. I had to do research for the birthdays, deaths and marriages since they were before I was born. The system call for grandparents as the third generation, the beginning when the grandparents sometimes were married by the age of twelve or thirteen and picking cotton was the only way to accumulate income for the family. My father’s parents only had a common law marriage after living with a total of four children born to their family. On my mother’s side of the family, her mother and father had a marriage of forty years with a total of six children born to their family. Active listening to understand what others are saying and how to accomplish win-win solutions. My family covered most of their problems by drinking and hiding that fact that they were addicted. In the case of working Hispanics who suffer from alcohol or substance abuse, I will be using the Screening, Brief Intervention and Refer Treatment process to make sure alcohol or substance use go undetected. The fact that certain illness and gamble addiction in my family went untreated, and swept under the rug, I will using Motivational Interviewing because in my opinion, the things that do not get talked about does not get fix. Motivational Interviewing (MI) provides social workers with an opportunity to deny ourselves for the good of our clients. Divorce and broken relationship is seemed often in my family. My family did not seek counsel outside the family for this reason; I would like to see the Hispanic culture be a part of saving broken relationships and building new ones. Research has proven that the Hispanic culture do not seek counseling outside the family reams because it is a sign of weakness. My family believed providing a safe environment for their families and their own communities. My hopes are to creating foundations with great resources for the Hispanic families where they can feel safe and secure in their own environment. The color of my skin, the poverty from which I come, the enslaved of my ancestors should cause one to be anger or discouraged about something that is impossible to fix.., so I chose to celebrate being a person of resources that practice inspiring, empowering and motivating others to be a part of the inclusion of opportunities in the United States of
