My Family Experiences

My first memories of realizing that my family was a part of Christianity was when I was around five or six years old. At the time my family was stationed in El Paso after my dad came back from being overseas. The church that my family attended was the church of God and Christ. We used to attend church every Sunday. The Church of God and Christ is where southerners say all of the “holy-rollers” attended or the very religious attended. My parents were not really holy-rollers themselves but we attended this church because my dad wanted my family attend because he always attended church as a child while he was growing up in Mississippi. He wanted my mother, sister, and I to be exposed to Christianity as well especially my mom because growing up she did not really attend church.
Furthermore, my family lived in Texas for about three to four years. I do not remember a whole lot about attending church back other than we went. For instance, there are some profound memories that I remember about attending. The first memory is of my dad getting baptized. I did not understand at the

Christianity has always been a large part of my life, as far back as my memories will reach. I grew up in a Christian home and we would go to church just about every week. From there, I thus knew about Christianity from your typical church atmosphere where your parents stick you in a room with other children as they go listen to the sermon. To be completely honest, I truly don’t remember learning much, but just wanting to be back home so I could play. In fact, I don’t remember where I really understood that Jesus is my saviour; all I know is that it’s a deeply ingrained fact in my mind.…

Both of the worship models are revivalist and we both have a band playing music before the pastor comes out. We both have communion every Sunday morning and both of our pastors reference different verses when preaching. Now there are also some differences as you would expect. Houston Faith Church dedicated at least five minutes to people meeting and greeting after the band singing. Also they called upon anyone who had a bad back and needed healing to come to the front of the church so they could pray for them.…

My spiritual journey of faith has turned me into more of a “mutt” than a “purebred” Christian because of the variety of denominations and international churches that I have experienced so far in my life. For starters, I grew up in a “every Sunday” church family. In fact, I was at church the very next Sunday after being born. My first church was part of the Assemblies of God. However, a few years later my parents divorced and we ended up at a non-denomination church, where I spent the next 20 years.…

My family is deeply rooted in the Christian faith, we went to church on Sundays and Wednesdays. My father grew up in a family that only went to church on Easter and Christmas and were Christian only in name. When he was about five or six his mother became a Jehovah’s Witness while his father did not. Because of her religion, she was never involved in birthdays or holidays throughout his childhood and it turned him away from religion as a whole until his senior year of high school when he went to a Younglife camp and committed his life to Christ. My mother grew up in a very different household.…
