I taught 4 different sections of 8th grade U.S. history and each class was considerably different from the next. The skills and needs not only varied from section to section, but within the sections too. As a teacher I constantly found myself adjusting to meet the needs of my students, in hopes of being a strong educator.
Placement School
Mott Hall II is located on 109th street on the upper west side in between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues. The school consists of 345 students covering grades 6 through 8. I student taught the 8th grade, which consisted of 115 students. One of the most common observations about the student body at Mott Hall II is its diversity, the same applies to its neighborhood. This is something that I was surprised to see when I started working at my site. The Nikole Hannah-Jones article, where she touched on the large divide among racial and socioeconomic classes made New York City school incredibly segregated was what I was expecting to see (Hannah-Jones, 2016).
