My Experiences

After reflecting on my learning experiences with the arts and social studies, certain events have stood out to me. These events have played important roles in my life and have made me the individual I am today. I chose to create a symbolic representation of these events in the form of a flower. I believe this is a great way to demonstrate my experiences throughout my life. The petals on the bottom of the flower demonstrate the foundation of my experiences and as one looks to the petals towards the top one can see how much I have grown. I also chose to use a flower because I know I will have more experiences with the arts and social studies thus giving me room to grow. The same goes for a flower as it has potential to grow bigger. One of my favourite parts of kindergarten was when we had free time. I always loved going to the painting station and putting on a smock and painting pictures. Most of my paintings were scribbles, but as the year progressed, I started painting pictures of my family and of flowers, I loved painting tulips. My parents have kept some of these paintings and I enjoy looking at them after all these years. When I was eight I decided I wanted to begin ballet lessons. I do not know if it is because I had read so many stories about ballerinas and wanted to become one when I was older or if it was because many of my friends were taking lessons. I just remember being so happy when my Mom told …show more content…
I do not have much experience teachings the arts and social studies. My placement last year was in a kindergarten class. In terms of art I did many crafts with the students and with social studies, we discussed rules and how to be a good person. Other than that, I have not had much experience. As a beginning teacher, I found David Hutchinson’s monograph very insightful. I hope I am able to incorporate some of his ideas into my grade four placement this year. Specifically taking the opportunity to study the school environment and my students communities. I am interested in learning about their favourite spaces in the school, maybe they have a special memory of a certain place. I would also like them to share their communities and activities they participate in. In doing so, I hope they are able to make connections with others in the class and perhaps even make a new friend. As I look forward to my placement this year, I hope my learning experiences with the arts and social studies will guide and inspire my teaching and in turn create enriching experiences for my

To understand how to best reach our students it is important to understand the community they come from, as well as, the qualities of the school itself. It is also helpful as a future teacher to observe other teachers lessons to see how they engage with their students, and apply that when you teach. In this paper I am going to go over statistical information from both Hanford as a town and Hanford High School, as well as, an observation of a history teacher at Hanford High School. INFORMATION ABOUT THE HANFORD/ DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL Hanford is a rural community that is very diverse in its cultural background similar to the rest of California, but has a lower number of educational degrees then on average in California. This summer I became a care assistant at a local care home. The driver behind me pursuing this was my desire to give back to the local community, a desire that Hogan Lovells demonstrates through your pro bono work. Doing this I was able to provide care and assistance to some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The majority of my work centered around providing personal care, assisting with day-to-day living and nursing needs of the residents. However, I found it important to go further than this, providing emotional support by taking the time to personally interact with the residents, providing well-needed company.…

The poem “The Wild Honeysuckle” written by Philip Freneau, through four short stanzas, breaks down the life and death of a flower as the narrator of the poem observes it. Through the use of his vivid imagery, and metaphors, Freneau uses the cycle of life of a flower as representation for a human’s life cycle, and each organisms’ impending death. He uses the descriptions of nature to portray a relationship between a flower and its environment, symbolizing a child’s relationship with its caregiver and life. Each stanza within the twenty-four lines represents a stage within human life: when a baby is in the womb, their childhood, adulthood, and then their ultimate death. In each cycle, the flower, and the symbolic child, grows from a newborn protected…

Art education is not something that should not exceed the budget of other schools that cannot afford it and instead be shared equally among all types of public schools. Art education is seems to benefit a young child dramatically, “The arts also contribute to the education of young children by helping them realize the breadth of human experience, see the different ways humans express sentiments and convey meaning, and develop subtle and complex forms of thinking” (Sousa) Although the arts are often thought of as separate subjects, like chemistry or algebra, they really are a collection of skills and thought processes that transcend all areas of human engagement. Art has its own form of educational value and students develop better interaction skills with their peers and the public. Being able to develop a bond with peers with their same interest’s help students open up and become less shy thus helping them build a more sophisticated way of thinking.…
