In my experiences of gender socialization, I have experienced many aspects that I have learned about in class. I have learned about numerous topics such as body image, media, family, and violence which have played a role in my own lifetime. It has been interesting to learn and comprehend how these topics have affected my life in a way I would have never thought about before. Body image is an important factor to myself, a woman. Body image is a reflection on how you may feel about yourself and your body. It’s can also be how attractive you may identify yourself as. Many individuals also value body image to extremely high standards in today’s society. Some individuals may even develop disorders due to the fact they are unhappy with their body

There are many forms of violence such as physical, sexual, emotional, and neglect that can take place in relationships and family. In class a student mentioned how she dated a guy for a while and abuse was an issue in her relationship. The girl said she wanted to break up with him before college started but she was afraid that he would hurt her. She mentioned how her boyfriend would stalk her and push and shove her constantly. This is a major problem not only in high school relationships, but also in marriages. Often times, violence is a problem in marriages and it is normally the husband abusing the wife. I have seen domestic violence take place even in my own family. As I mentioned my parents got divorced when I was a little girl and it was because of my father. My father had been an alcoholic and had quite an anger problem. My mother would be at home taking care of me and my father would come home highly intoxicated and try to abuse my mother. Even today I can vividly remember seeing my mother always crying and scared when she was around my father and I never understood why until I got older. It is so terribly sad to think that something so horrible such as violence took place in my household. Anytime I see a husband or boyfriend getting mad at their partner I want to make a difference and say something to make them stop treating them so
