As I reflect on my childhood, I remember traveling far from my home to a better school in a diverse neighborhood. I remember the long rides from our crime infested neighborhood to neighborhoods lined with beautiful trees, nice homes, and clean streets. I knew that I deserved everything that my grandmother said I was destined to receive. I knew that one day my daughter was going to look up to me. I knew she needed someone to guide her just like my grandmother did me. I had to turn my life around.
After many dead end jobs and struggles, I knew education was going to help me achieve my goals. I took a leap of faith, after years of working as Certified Nursing Assistant, to become a Teacher 's Assistant. My new job restored my faith in education, my two daughters renewed my motivation, and my grandmother renewed my appreciation. My life started to progress in the right direction. My self-confidence increased and I became that person my grandmother knew I could become.
In 2013, I applied to Trinity Washington University and for a new job with the District of Columbia Public Schools. I was accepted into Trinity that fall as well as secured a new job by the end of the year. I had no clue how I was going to attend school, work, and be a full time mother.
