My Experience With ADHD

My hands flutter around the table, picking up the silverware, playing with my napkin, stirring my drink incessantly, my right leg bouncing, my mind constantly switching between hundreds of thoughts all jumbled together. Although I struggled with hyperactivity from an early age, I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until I entered high school and struggled to complete tests within the allotted time. When I was first diagnosed, I was really ashamed of myself. I didn't want to be viewed as different, and for a long time my ADHD really hindered my perception of myself as a student. As I entered my junior year, our family had to move out of our house while it was under construction. We were unable to find consistent housing throughout the year, and we had to move a total of 5 times. I thought I had my ADHD under control, but the lack of a consistent home life completely destroyed any progress I had made in managing my condition. Each of the 5 times we moved that year uprooted my progress, and it sent me into a spiraling depressive episode that I struggled to overcome. My grades plummeted, which served to only make me feel worse about myself, and it was all I could do to make it through the day without crying. I realized I needed help. …show more content…
She also helped me become more cognizant of the environment I need to structure for myself in order to be successful. Although this period in my life was incredibly difficult, I am grateful for the insight my struggle with ADHD has given me, and for how it has ultimately motivated me to succeed academically. At this point in my senior year, I have all A's and B's, and I have managed to form long-lasting, consistent study habits. I am eternally grateful for all the assistance I've received, and I am determined to continue to
