My First Concert At Linnaea

Improved Essays
My first concert I attended was at Linnaea 's cafe in downtown San Luis Obispo, it was my first time going to Linnaea’s and watching the jazz performance. The band that was playing were young adults from the cuesta music program. The band’s name was the sharks there was three men and one woman in the group, the woman was the lead singer, and the three men’s instruments were a bass guitar, xylophone, and a guitar. Linnaea’s is a very small cafe, and the jazz room was full, so i was sitting in the back and it was hard to hear what songs they said they were playing, but still noticed some great jazz songs that they played.

The song started with a powerful guitar solo, then gradually the bass and xylophone would join for about a minute. After they stopped playing the guitar player sang a little verse followed by a poem by the singer, that went perfect with the beat of the song. I was very impressed with the composed song by Grant it had a nice flow and straight 8th chill vibe, I think they should really record that song. My favorite song that they played was a song called say my name by destiny’s child, this was my favorite song, because it just looked like the band was just having such a good time playing it, and looked like one of their favorite songs. A guitar solo would start the song, and then the xylophone and bass joined with the singers voice overpowering. The singer was really feeling the song, I can tell by her facial expressions, and she sang a amazing song she sounded like she was the one who created it her voice really added a lot to the song. The song had a very chill vibe, and was in a 4/4 measure, I believe sometimes the song would get a funk vibe, then slow down and go into a straight eighth feel. I really enjoyed the show, and had a great time at Linnaea 's and was really impressed with the band called the sharks, and I hope they keep playing I love their style and the type of music they

Jazz History Concert Report II For my final concert writing critique, I decided to attend the live Ball State Student Jazz Combos on Tuesday, November 8; this event took place in Choral Hall inside of the university’s Music Instruction Building. The wooden hall was smaller than I thought it would have been, but it gave the concert setting a more intimate feel. There were three groups presenting that day, each under a different director. Because each group did not have a specific name, I had to label them based on the order in which they performed.…

It sounds very romantically, like something you can slow danced through it. “Laura” was a ballad they played; it was the same melody throughout the song; in the middle of the sung, there was the electronic saxophone sound, like the sax was doing a solo. It was very romantic and…

I appreciated the effort and music the mariachi group gave in their performance. I noticed how the trumpet usually took the main role while the violins supported the trumpets voice, usually by pizzicato. The guitar and guitarrón were mainly the background music that played the same rhythm over and over. It made me realize the beauty of…

Also, people could stand on the balconies on the top and watch the concert, which was interesting. Most of the audience seemed to be college students who knew the Cash Cash songs already, just as I did. Cash Cash is a group of DJs, so the three guys stood at the front of the stage and one of them did the music on the computer, while one of them did the music on the DJ board. It seemed like they were making the music as they were going along because they were listening to their headphones and planning the music on the computer and DJ board. The other one seemed to be the entertainer, so he walked around the stage and even came into the crowd.…

To my surprise, this unique song was not in the program provided to us but was still played. The song opened quietly again with Joy playing the saxophone. As the song progressed, the drumbeats and guitar players joined in, pausing after every phrase that Joy had sang. It became increasingly dramatic, yet holding the atmospheric mood at a relaxing level. In my opinion, the lyrics had helped established that.…

From the very first song, I was surprised how much I enjoyed the performance despite me not knowing the genre very well. The first song, “Darlin’ Corey”, instantly caught my attention especially from the ‘bright’ banjo picking. The next song, ‘Freight Train’, was a completely different which had a more somber tone. In the beginning, it started very eerie-like until the banjo came in to brighten up the overall tone of the song. One of the notable moments of the whole concert was during the “In the Pines” in the first set, where the ensemble highlights the unlikely instrument, the French Horn.…

The second Musician I want to talk about would be Michael Lington during the live Jazz Concert. Michael Lington is the Sax player. He is a Danish- American contemporary Saxophonist , producer, songwriter, recording artist and a purveyor of soul and contemporary Jazz. I personally love the way how the concert went, even though I’m not in the actual performance, but I still felt how excited the audiences was during the concert. During the Concert the music was played very soft and it did not have anything like the big band or African influence kind of characteristics.…

For it being my first ever concert, I was amazed that you could do so much more with just 5 instruments. It got me on a mindset of playing guitar. The first selection of the evening was Band of Brothers by Micheal Kamen. This song has an intense melody with rhythmic harmony throughout the performance. The song has a very uplifting tempo that drove it along. Near the end of the song, the tempo slows down and then picks back up to create a grand finale. The triumphant sound created by the percussions was very influential to me, and made me think of unity.…
