My Experience Of Reading And Writing

Decent Essays
Growing up I was never a big fan of books or writing. I would cringe whenever I was given assignments to read a book that I would have to write an essay on, and always looked for a way to get out of it. I remember doing general research on a book rather than taking the time to read it. I think I continued to stay this way until about ten years ago, when I began to write reports while serving in the military. I started to learn that it was more of an art form rather than just putting my ideas down on a piece of paper. For a living, I currently write for our nation, and papers I write have the possibility of going to the highest levels of our government. So now when I write, I take much more pride into what I am doing, because I enjoy the feedback

Growing up as a kid I never really enjoyed reading and writing. It was and probably will always be my least favorite subject, nothing against you my lovely English professor, but I just don’t enjoy it. The only time I really enjoyed reading as a child was when I got my first leap pad and I eventually destroyed it and it was probably within 2 weeks of getting it,…

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

As I grew older, I started to dislike reading because it just seemed boring to me to read the books or novels we had to read in school. Although, I did enjoy to read my own personal books that I checked out from the library, reading was just something I didn’t have much interest for as I did for writing. I greatly enjoyed writing. Most of the writing I have done, whether it be academic or informal, has always had a touch of a personal experience and emotion. I have loved the feeling of calculating thoughts and getting them down on paper.…

I used to hate reading, it didn’t matter what book it was. Fiction, Non-fiction, Biography, Autobiography, none of it interested me at all. I also don’t have a good attention span, so if I didn’t like a book in the beginning my ears would shut off. I would stop listening to it, or I would stop remembering what I had just read. Until my freshman year, I wanted to do good in high school because high school is when grades start to matter.…

However, of course as an 8th grader I have a lot to work on when it comes to writing, chances are you have already found a few mistakes in this paragraph. When it comes to what kinds of writing I have come to like, I have to groups, the writing I like to read and the writing that I find fun to write. All people have life experiences which influence their understanding of reading and writing. Some of them turn out to have a great impact on the world such as Sigmund Freud- who published a multitude of books developing our understanding of psychology, or Shakespeare- who has widely shaped drama writing and even the English language. I too have a considerable amount of experiences that shaped my writing, not enough to change the world, but enough to where I could share with you the ones that influenced me the most. My first experience was in my childhood.…

There are many instances in my life that shaped, formed, and helped me become who I am as a writer and a reader. There were certain teachers that got me interested in reading and later helped grow my love for reading. To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

English has always been an easy subject for me as I truly enjoy reading and writing, for as long as I remember I have had a natural talent for English. The lowest grade I have ever received in an English class was a B at the very lowest. I believe my talent for reading and writing comes from my mother who has always been an avid reader and even read aloud while she was pregnant because she heard that it was good for me. While growing up, my parents took me to the library weekly to get books for myself as well as themselves. When I was old enough, she placed me in reading programs at the library to further my reading skills and to meet some other children before kindergarten.…

Up until the point, I had rarely so much as laid hands on a nonfiction book. I stopped reading nearly outright. Because we had to do a large amount of reflection and analysis for every weekly reading log, including a one page essay, I would only skim through the text enough to become informed enough to write a passable essay. The way my education in reading was progressing, I concluded…
