Religious choices become more urgent and more complex, even among people with continuing religious commitments. To make sense of their own lives, individuals have to make choices regarding how to form and balance their religious commitments. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

Hindu Theology emphasizes self as inherently liberated; however, suffering due to ignorance prevents humans from living a liberated life. Chapter 4 in A Hindu Theology of Liberation explores “The Liberated Life” and the challenges of achieving this state by examining the causes of suffering, the consequences of ignorance, and how love, compassion, and generosity exhibit actions of liberation. “The Liberated Life” not only helps define how liberation is reached in Hinduism, but also helped me reflect on how this concept applies to my life. The first obstacle in achieving a liberated life was suffering, which resulted from self-insufficiency and improper understanding of one’s self.…

I was born to a Hindu family – and therefore, I call myself a Hindu, based on the cultural exposures that I have had through my family and my religious community. And yet Hinduism for me is like a foundation, one on which I have built my own perceptions of God and religion, based on my own life experiences. My particular views may therefore seem unique at best, blasphemous at worst – but they will have a great impact on how I act as a patient, and as a physician. Like many Hindus, I believe in reincarnation. Traditionally, reincarnation means that after death, souls are reborn many times to repay their debts, to right their wrongs, and to rid themselves of their past karmas, or deeds, until they are ready to become one with God.…

Initially before reading the book, I expected and predicted that the book would be a typical book written by many Muslim reverts where they would just describe their experience before and after becoming a Muslim. However, as I read the preface which is a habit in order to know the writer’s purpose and set my own intention of the book, I knew that Jeffrey Lang is not typical reverts. The book answers my questions, argues my existing principals and promotes me into thinking deeper about experience of being a Muslim and how non Muslims perceive Islam. Thus, this reflection will talk about experience with the Holy Quran and Hadith, interaction with non Muslims, concept of ummah and Palestine. These points will be related to author’s explanations, descriptions, experiences and also my own opinion.…
