Descriptive Essay: The Breach

I was sitting on an old wooden bench. It creaked when you sat down on it and it shook, but there was nothing wrong with it. It was discolored from the long, brutal winter we had and it had graffiti on it from the local gang. People never sat on this bench. There were other benches that were surrounding it, but everyone avoided this one. I never could figure out why they did not sit on it. I mean, sure it creaks and shakes when went you sit on it; and the graffiti is unpleasing to the eye, but there are some good things to this bench. It was under a under a Dogwood tree, right next to the river. It gave a nice view of the river, and it was always quiet. You could hear the sound of the river flowing; it was calming. People always came to the …show more content…
His name is Patrick. He is a little different from Sarah. He has both of his parents, and he has some siblings. Patrick is the fourth oldest out of ten children. He has a very large family! His entire family is nice and sweet, but just like any family, they have flaws. Once in a while his parents fight, and sometimes they wish they never had this many kids, but they still love them. There is only one person who knows all of this… and it is Patrick. He is not the oldest, but he supports his family a whole lot. He had a job, he helped pay bills, he did most of the household chores because his parents normally work. They work long, hard hours and the oldest boys are left to do most of the work. There is a huge jump in ages between Patrick and his little sister Brittany. Brittany is four and Patrick is seventeen. There is a huge difference in ages. This makes it difficult because they cannot ask them to do much. Normally, the kids who are a little older are forced to vacuum, sweep, clean the rooms, and help put the dishes away. It is strenuous for Patrick. He is staying strong for all of his brothers and sisters, not his parents. They are dead to him; at least that is how it seems to him. Well, he has tried to stay strong. He was strong for so long, and like any person, he had a breaking point. After the years trying to support his family, he had reached it. He broke, and there was no looking back. He got depressed, and it was not good. He hid it from his family and most of his friends, but his friends started to notice things, and they stopped being friends with him. I was the only one who did not give up on

He used to spit at my mom when he was mad at her and said “how do you like that?” My mother would have to hold him down while he threw a temper tantrum and when he was done, he would cry and say “I just want my dad”.…

It was very odd to find a kangaroo in Conzano, a tiny town in the heart of the Piedmont in Northern Italy. Odd and confusing I felt, since I could not discern the grounds of such a concrete presence. Imperative is to stress that I mean “concrete” in two senses: the material (the cement of the moulding) in which this particular marsupial was made and hung on the lateral outer wall of the local bar, facing the main square; and its categorical ubiquity. The kangaroo was there and I could fantasize that it has been –from immemorial times- monitoring every movement in this community: from the unperceived panting of a fly to the exact instant of the crunching echo of a blossoming flower; from the hopeful sigh of an enchanted heart to the dripping rumoring about the weather and the scented conversations held…
