Passing over the threshold into the Hopkins County Central High School, it felt as if it was the inaugural day of school all over once more. Walking the halls of the very same school that I attended in years 2000-2004, brought back so many memories. Equally, I was walking down memory lane, I had to soon realize that now my character has changed. Today, I am walking as a soon to be a teacher. It felt so weird, being on the grownup side of life today, thus I stood face-to-face with a thought, “Are you certain this is what you desire to do?” Entering into Ms. Gilkey’s classroom, I felt the butterflies roam in my stomach. I still recall the tactile sensation of suspense, waiting for that 8:00 a.m. bell to ring. Looking around I began observing the students, as well as the reactions of the teacher. The kids were very talkative and had plenty of opinions to give. But really, what can you expect in a room full of twenty-one 9th grade Algebra students. To my surprise, there were more boys (13) in the classroom than girls (8). This was not always the case throughout my …show more content…

With these students just coming from Middle School, I think that the curriculum was very effective. I definitely feel that the Ms. Gilkey demonstrated applied content knowledge in the classroom lesson. With loads of new technology in school nowadays, besides the chrome books, no one had to use the whiteboard anymore either. The whiteboard has been replaced with the smart board. Until this visit, I had never experienced a smart board. I think it worked out very well while Ms. Gilkey presented a math problem to the class. The use of a smartboard also allows students to interact and participate in the lesson. While observing the new technology, I feel that it is for the student 's advantage, and the teacher implemented it very

As a future educator, I was asked to observe classrooms that consisted of different ages and stages of learning. Since John F. Deering Middle School and West Warwick High School are connecting school, I decided to set up my observations there. Quite honestly, it was a great feeling to go back to where I attended school and view the new ways that children are learning today. On February 28th, I visited an eighth grade Social Studies class at Deering Middle School. One of the things that I immediately noticed in the class was how students were completely engaged as they completed their work on their Chromebooks.…

In high school classrooms, the tuition is free, and we also do not have to pay for books, but there’s also people who feel forced to attend school. When we are in high school, we have to attend school, and if we do not, the District sends a letter to our parents. In high school classrooms teachers are always constantly telling you what to do, and if you miss a day they will give you the work you missed. In college classrooms there is no age. You could be 17 or 100 and still have the same class as someone much younger or older than you.…

When I got home from school I would act like a math teacher and teach my sister math, even though she is older than me. I had the same teacher to teach me math in second and fourth grade; I love her so much. It was my math teacher, Mrs. Patrice Worrells who inspired my love of math and determination, and her example and knowledge led me to want to pursue a career as an accountant. Mrs. Worrells made sure I knew all the basics of math because without the basics there is no way to understand the higher levels. She taught me to always be determined, how to get through tests, and how to stay positive.…

However, when I walked in the classroom and saw my old high school classmates Jace and Lauren, I became a bit more comfortable. I had had been so anxious to where my anxiety actually converted into excitement and eagerness. I got to my homeroom where I saw new kids that were clean-cut and normal. When I stepped into the building, I immediately felt that I was in my first high school again because of University’s size, a student body of over 1,000 students. Furthermore, my mother and I scheduled a meeting with the senior class counselor. In the meeting, I first asked the most important question; will my PAP and AP classes receive a multiplier? By my delight, she said, “Yes, of course. Why wouldn’t they?” With that yes, I decided that I would transfer to University High School my senior…
