Therefore I have recently created a lesson starting with a brain teaser that related to the lesson they would learned that day. This activated student’s prior knowledge. As some students struggle with abstract concepts such as my gold students, the students had options to work individually or with another student. As it can cause students anxiety to have an unfamiliar puzzle in front of them to figure out when they feel as though they have no prior knowledge I prefer to set these students up for success while including a challenge. However, my green students appreciated the chance to challenge themselves and think abstractly to answer the brain teasers. Some of my green students were reluctant to try as they felt there was no purpose and after explaining how it would connect to the lesson, were willing to try.
