Thea 2050: Self Analysis

During my time in THEA 2050: Self-Staging, I learn many techniques and ways to present myself during speeches, groupwork, and an interview. Coming from a Public Speaking class, I already had a general idea how to present myself but I was aware that I needed some areas to work on. My main problem was that I knew that I had to work on not looking at notecards or the ground while speaking. In the beginning of the semesters, I also struggle by saying “um” and my posture was not the best. While presenting my speeches, I was extremely nervous and was scared that I was going to mess up. Looking back on my speeches and the video clips of me, I notice how my speeches improve and how I present myself better. I feel like I did better on my speeches that …show more content…
During the group project, I learn to work with people as a team and learn how we can come together to come up with a presentation. In the past speech classes I have taken, I never really had an opportunity to work with teammates. To me, this presentation was the easiest for me. All my teammates got together to help support each other and how to improve our presentation. From the past three speeches, I knew what I needed to work on to help me present myself. However, I did end up focusing more on the cards during my section of the project. Unfortunately, this was due to a technical error and I had to depend on cards. The mock interview will probably be more beneficial to me than the other presentations. Even though I had a job in the past, an interview wasn’t required. Learning the process of working on a cover letter and a resume help me understand the process and effort that goes into applying a job. When it came around the monologue section, I knew that I had to work hard to memorize the speaking role. I look bacon onto my past speeches and focus what I needed to work. I recently performed my monologue to help to memorize. I learn from Self-Staging that the best wat to perform an speech is to repeatedly …show more content…
I tend to deliver my speeches with notecards because it helps me remember what to say. However, I focus on my cards more than I do on the audience. Therefore, my bad habit I have is that I always kept looking at the notecards than I did to the audience. Due to this, I know that I need to work on my eye contact during speeches. In addition, I also learn I need to work more on my conclusions, so it won’t be a weak. Hopefully, in the future I would not have to use note cards as much and make better eye contact. Overall, I notice that my speeches did improve and this will help me in the

The results of my PRCA-24 were a little surprising but in a good way. I got an 84 which was much higher than I thought it was going to be which I guess reflects on the fact that maybe I don 't give myself as much credit as I should when thinking about my public speaking ability. One of the things the test made me realize is that i’m more nervous in regular life than I am nervous when public speaking, because I thought about the questions if they referred to the circumstances of everyday life. I guess that’s the benefit and downside to being a performer. Watching the video was a little bit strange for me because I’m always perceiving myself differently when I’m up there, which is partly a perspective switch but also sometimes it’s also focusing…

Practice makes perfect as everyone has heard this saying before. In the future, I plan on practicing my speeches more by speaking in front of a mirror over and over again to give myself the impression of what I look like when speaking in front of a group of people. Practicing in front of a mirror over and over again will also help me memorize my speech more instead of relying on my note card as often, giving me more confidence while speaking. I tend to use my note card as a comforting thing when I get nervous and forget what I am about to say. It gives me the chance to collect my thoughts and remember what I was going to say as well as staying on track of where I was going in my speech.…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…

While speaking, I have always stood very still in one place. There were some instances during the semester where I would make motions with my hands while presenting, however I still stood very still. Luckily, I have improved on my public speaking apprehension, so from now on I should be able to focus on improving my nonverbal delivery skills. Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

I strongly dislike public speaking, but I am working to improve my skills in that area because I know how much it’s needed in the workplace. There were many of my classmates who are graduating at the same time as me and it seems like we all have a lot to improve. We need more practice and more willing to put what we have learned in the past into practice. I know that during our college careers, we have heard from different people about what we should do when we are giving a presentation, but it looks like we did not take it seriously and now we are facing the consequences of giving a presentation like a high school student and not as an almost professional…
