Mr. Hansen: The Sarcastic One

High school is both daunting and menacing. Walking into the school on the first day, most underclassmen are too nervous to look into how teachers act and react to the students. As you go through the year, you start to figure out which teachers like sports, which ones are funny, and which ones do not allow being in the hall without a pass.
My first day of seventh grade went as bad as any other middle schooler with the bad luck of going to a junior high attached to the high school. I had walked through the doors with caution, and the walk to my locker seemed to be a mile long as I passed all the massive football players and intimidating seniors. By the time I had gotten to my locker I was shaking as bad as a Chihuahua in snow.

We had just finished the problem when I called Mr. Hansen back to check my group’s work. He looked over our paper and told us to fix number three. I checked our work and called him back again to ask what we did wrong; I could not figure out what we were missing. Mr. Hansen looked at me as though I was as oblivious as Snow White when she takes the apple after the queen had already tried twice to kill her. He then sighed and asked what seventeen plus twenty-four was; I told him forty-two with doubt thick in my answer. He laughed as I questioned myself and started counting on my fingers. After nearly five minutes, I finally hung my head as I shamefully told him the correct answer was forty-one. Forty-one electrons. By this time, Mr. Hansen was on the ground with laughter, and I eventually had to laugh with him at my own stupidity. He continued to check every other group’s work while continuing to make math jokes towards me. When I walked into class two days later, he greeted me with a pun about simple math

These teachers love to compliment students on simple things such as: clothes, hair styles, nails, and shoes. A Rickords teacher is always dressed up nicely, and they love when students also dress for success. These teachers rarely have a bad day, so you never have to be cautious about if they will snap easy that day or not. In fact, these teachers do not usually snap even if they are having an off day. However, a Rickords teacher does not tolerate immature behavior; they have high expectations for each student, so students behave well in these teachers’

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

This personal narrative is going to be about the first day of Middle School and my experiences as a 6th grader. It is going to go after my emotions and other descriptive details of the first day. I still remember how the seat belt felt tightening across my chest as the car got closer to the Middle School. During that time I knew nothing about being in a big school because the biggest school i've been in was yankee ridge. (Which is really small).…

I wanted to keep my book sack light, but to do this I had to make a few trips to my locker every day. It would definitely take me a minute or two because of the crowd, and I felt my locker just pointing and laughing at me as I tried to approach it. Despite the students rummaging through the halls, I was able to attend my classes on time. Of course, the first day of high school was mostly what I expected it to be like. It feels nice to have a fresh start, with some great teachers that certainly look forward to teaching me, and I most surely look forward to learning from…

I was in middle-school when I first came but it was in high school that I truly grew to appreciate the wonderful community. My first year of high school was certainly unnerving, although I had previously attended an elementary and middle school that were more than double its size it still held an allure of suspense over what may soon come.…

It was the second week of school junior year, in my third-period physics class. The bell rang shrilly, signaling the commencement of my own living hell. The teacher - a small, wiry man with a bit too much bite - sat in the back of the room. Grade book, and red pen in hand, he waited impatiently with a cold glare. The clock's ticking was loud in my ears and mixed with my rapid heartbeat.…

Middle school is an inevitable phase of many of our lives. It is also a very memorable time- for both good and bad reasons. Yet, we all somehow manage to strive through no matter how tough the year gets. For me, at first, none of the typical horrifying middle school stereotypes fit how my sixth grade year was going. I had plenty of friends, understood my classes, and I didn’t appear to be too awkward.…

High school also intimidated me as I made the transformation from “big man on campus” in eighth grade to a young and vulnerable 9th graders. The thought of having new teachers, described by some upperclassmen as “brutal” was also overwhelming. Overall, I had no clue what to expect. My middle school teachers always warned us, “In high school, you are on your own and there is no cushion. Teachers will not hold your hands and help you through every little thing.”…

Descriptive Essay Nearly everyone had a high school experience, and many people have some kind of college experience. People who experienced both of these know how overwhelming the transition from high school to college can be at first. Dual enrollment is a great example of attending public high school and a community college at the same time and yet finding it to be a confusing contrast. For two places that have a similar purpose, which is to educate, the experience one will have at both places is far more different than one would expect.…
