Personal Narrative: My American Dream Of Becoming A Nurse

When I started nursing college in August 2015, I only had a very clear idea of my final goal-- becoming a nurse. Actually, I did not think of how this would be or of how I would relate to my fellow students or to my professors. Nevertheless, I can now compare the before and after of my experience at the American college. I do prefer to emphasize the present moment which I see as the key to achieving my American dream.

Language always has been the principal barrier for me, and from my point of view, it is a common concern for the majority of non-English speakers who decide to come to the United States of America. Before I started school, I thought it would be more difficult, but I as met numerous people who were also struggling in order to achieve the same goal, I was convinced once again that it was possible. In fact, I had always thought it would be much easier to study this subject because of my previous studies. Once introduced to it, however, I realized that nursing would require hard study and sacrifice as it contains many issues that I had never before considered. Also, I never thought before entering the world of nursing that I would like it so much. Nursing is an extraordinarily humane profession. Nurses are the best allies of the sick and their biggest advocates, and not the doctor’s assistants, as I had previously believed. Definitely, my opinions and expectations before starting school were somewhat different from what they are today. The change has been good and the experience that I am living is remarkably great. An attitude that I find in myself and has always been present in me is this: through this remarkable experience I have been full of positive ideas. I am thankful for this attitude and hope to maintain it through my future
