Essay On Wind Ensemble

Good Essays
Throughout my life I have experienced many unusual experiences and incidents, but there is one in particular that has impacted me so much that I will never forget. Wind ensemble is the top wind/percussion group in Derby High School and is filled up every year with extremely talented high schoolers (most of which are upper classmen). During my freshman year the first chair player in my section (a senior at the time) insisted that I audition to be in the exclusive group. At the time I thought it was a joke, but I auditioned regardless. Two weeks later results were posted, and I was in for a big surprise. I made it. I made wind ensemble. Little did I know the work and expectations that I would be held accountable of doing just because I was apart of …show more content…
As I get older I am constantly looking for ways to better myself, whether is be physically, musically, or mentally. My drive and motivation for self improvement definitely evolved from my involvement in wind ensemble. Every day the instructor tells us how high his expectations are for us and how we can set individual goals for ourselves to reach those expectations. I set three music goals for myself this past coming year and managed to accomplish two of them. One of them was to audition and make an honor group, and the other was to perform in solo competition. Both of the goals I had set required a lot of time and work, but they were things I knew I had to achieve in order to show my progress and keep moving forward. I now not only set music goals, but academic goals as well. I learned that it’s best to write them no matter how big or small and once you complete one you can go back and congratulate yourself for how far you 've come. This is something that I’m sure would have taken me years and years to learn if I had not been selected to be in wind ensemble my freshmen, sophomore, or junior

“You may take the field for competition.” Marching band has always been something I wanted to do since I entered North Middle School band. When I first signed up to be in the ‘Rebel Pride’ marching Band at Franklin County High School, I had no idea what that year would have in store for me. ‘Will I fit in?’ ‘Will anyone like me?’ Those were all questions I asked myself. I can honestly say that the four years I was in marching band was the time of great learning and discovery of myself and the people around me. My senior year was by far the most exciting and memorable part of marching band.…

When I registered for middle school, I randomly chose show choir as my elective because it seemed the most interesting out of my limited choices. At the time, I did not know that show choir would become something so important in my life. To this day, as a senior in high school, I am still involved in show choir, and I can't imagine how my…

Both the Linn Mar Marching Lions and LM musical pit orchestra are volunteer bands meaning members join of their own volition. Because of these experiences, I have been able to forge a multitude of strong friendships with others who have the same drive and passion for music as I do. These friendships have helped to guide me throughout my academic career. From my band peers I learned how to create a solid work ethic, and they have challenged me to take higher level classes. My band peers have nearly perfect grades which drives me to work hard and do the same.…

A panel of judges then gives each answer a grade. I was uneasy about this. Although I gained the ability to properly put together and deliver a planned speech, I didn't know if I could effectively deliver an answer when put on the spot with no preparation. I could have backed out of this competition at any moment, but I decided to go through with it to prove to myself that I could do it. My time finally came around to answer a question.…

At first, this was discouraging and I found myself contemplating the idea that maybe I wasn’t a leader but just two weeks later I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa National Community College Honors Society! It didn’t take long for me to realize that high school simply wasn’t the right environment for me because everything they told me I wasn’t capable of, I thrived in at the college! I have held active membership for over a year at Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government Association. For my junior years of high school and 2nd year of college, I was part of a delegation that represented the school at the National Model United Nations in New York City! Community service was never a requirement at my high school, however after my summer internship at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, I realized just how important it was.…

On November 19th I went to New Dorp high school as I do every year to watch Sing. Sing is a performance the school puts on each year. The students are divided into two teams: SeniorSoph, which consist of all the seniors and sophomores that want to be involved, and JuniorFresh, which are all the juniors and freshman involved. Both teams have to come up with an original play that the director writes him or herself and they then compete to see who will win that year. The shows are judged off multiple categories.…

Band has taught me so many things, once again how to work as a team. Especially through marching band season, we all have to learn to work together and individually improve for the greater good of the whole band. Choir also has reinforced those ideas, how working together is very important and you have to learn to get along with people. In the first two years of my high school career I was also involved in FCCLA. This was quite a learning experience, because it forced me to put myself farther out there to help more people and to learn to do things that would benefit others.…

As one of the best book about music theory* I’ve had said “When rules dominate, formula results. Too much formula is the enemy of invention.” In conclusion, music has been and always will be a huge part of my life whether I succeed as a musician or not. I know music has been essential to my life, in a good way; it has shaped my ideas and ideals to help me progress into a better person in this world. It has made me grow up to not be as self-centered and over confident in my abilities because I am only human. We all make mistakes and being arrogant is only going to hurt me in the long run. I have told myself that from now on, anything I am working on, especially music, I am going to put my full attentiveness towards it– start to finish. I recently competed at the state level again as a junior and received the division one rating I aspired to get – as well as the coveted title of outstanding soloist by my judge.…
