The last two weeks have been a little crazy, to say the least. I really feel like in these past two weeks and especially today, that I have been getting really involved in day-to-day activities with the class. The past two Thursdays were pretty similar to any normal Thursday in this class. Like normal, the class eats breakfast and then does their daily jobs. I have gotten the opportunity to work with my host teacher and two students on watering the school’s flowers. Then I help participate in check in with the students and calendar. My main job during this time is to make sure that the students are in their seats and doing what they should be. Next, I participate in leading a one-on-one math

One of my favorite parts of the day is when adapted music occurs at the end of the day. I love seeing the students so excited to participate in music. I also enjoy seeing the combination of signs and singing that takes place during this program. I have really enjoyed working with the students and learning a bunch of new things these past four weeks. Recently, I have even begun to pick up on simple signs that the teacher and paras do with the students. I cannot wait to see what more I learn throughout this semester.
Today was a really good day in my field experience. During gym, I was working really hard with the youngest student in the class. I was working with him to run, stretch, and do all gym related activities. I really had to push him to get him to participate in everything, as he wanted to keep sitting down. I could tell that he was really getting frustrated with me but I did not give up, as I knew that he needed to stay active. We then started a balloon game activity. The purpose of the activity was to work on hitting the balloon back to your partner. This is when I saw a breakthrough in the young boy, as he loved playing with the balloon and he was really improving on hitting the

Field Experience at Wildwood and Ernest Manning My cohort of ten was assigned to visit two schools over a two-week period with a full week dedicated to each location. The two schools were Wildwood elementary and Ernest Manning high school and while their relative closeness to one another would suggest that some Wildwood students may eventually be at Ernest Manning, they are opposites in terms of their status, how they carry themselves, and what they believe to be most important for students. Wildwood elementary is an old school as observed from its small and outdated architecture. Classes are small and at times claustrophobic, especially when packed with 20-25 of the nearly 600 students making it difficult if not impossible to navigate the…

This year so far has been a growing period in respect to my learning. English 1101 has helped me to learn many concepts; some of these being writing, reading, peer-editing, and time management. Field Experience Working as a Para educator in the Mt. Pleasant School District had opened my understanding about how important it is the job of a teacher. As I observed Mrs. Ensminger performed her duties, it has confirmed my conviction that a teacher is a teacher because they do not see their duties as a job it is a calling. Mrs. Ensminger, a level 1 special education teacher, is already at school no later than 7:15 am. Before school even starts she is already coordinated with core class teachers what she need to work on every individual student under her care. First period in her class is Science.…

My experience with the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County is one that I will remember forever. I begin my field experience in January not knowing what to expect nor what would be expected of me. I knew that this experience would help me to evolve professionally, however, I did not know that it would help me to evolve in a social setting. During my time with the Domestic Abuse Council (DAC), I received the opportunity to meet great employees, numerous courageous survivors, and very bright children. It was not an expectation of mine that the survivors would enter into the shelter and leave the shelter so frequently.…

This week during my field experience, I got the amazing opportunity to go to Fort Yates and visit the shelter down there. I went down there with an advocate who has her license in social work. I found it interesting that when discussing what we learned during college, that there was overlap despite going to different colleges.…

Aly Daniels Journal #1 Thoughts from the Week: The week seemed to take forever, once I entered the classroom. However, the favorite part of my day is the end of math, right before I leave for the day.
