On august 25th, 2015 I had the most tragic day in my life. I got to experience Storm Erika in the Commonwealth of Dominica. When I first heard the announcement the day before I was not worried, I thought it wouldn’t be effective and will last for two to three hours. When I woke up that morning about 6: 45 a.m. I was greeted by darkness and the sound of rain splashing on the roof of my house. My siblings were not doing their morning routine, but was soundly asleep. I went back to sleep for about an hour and woke up again to be greeted to the same thing as before. I went into my sister’s room and asked “Why are you not preparing to go to work?”
“The government said that there is no work today because of the weather.” She said

When I opened the tap there was no water. Then I turned on the light switch and there was no electricity. I then looked outside and everywhere was white. Realization then set in that we didn’t collect any water for the day so that we will be able to drink, bathe or cook food. Instinctively I took two basins and put them outside to collect rain water. For the remaining of the day my family and I just relax and talked, we used the rainwater to do the essential things. Everything was going great until 4:00 p.m. when we went down to the central of my parish. While we were driving we saw rocks on the road from the amount of rain that fell. I went to my cousin’s house to see if she was okay and she told me that a lot of bad things happen. I then went by the boulevard and was distraught by what I saw. All on the road was rocks, sand and trees. Some people house got washed away because of the pressure of the river going down. I then went to the playing field and I saw the road split in half and there was another river in the road. The playing field was cut in half because the river washed it down. While I was looking at the damage I saw one of my close friend and she told me that one
