My freshman experience at UM was a big total learning experience for me. The experience was a big change in the atmosphere from my high school times. The first thing that’s different, was being responsible for doing your own work and maintaining your schedule. The professors don’t treat us like babies because they feel that we are young adults and that we should know how to be responsible. As adults, we should know how to be responsible but if you aren’t, they sure going to teach you. I learn that the hard way. I also learn that you can’t depend on your parents. In college that’s when you have to put ownership in effective. These college experiences have been tough. By me being a commuter (staying off campus), I can’t have that experience of having campus fun. I feel so left out when I see other students talking to each other like they known one another for a long time. Living off campus is very different from staying on campus. Living on campus they have advantages and disadvantages. On campus, you can join in many campus and dorm activities. You get more food compensation which to me is a big advantage. Living on campus you can bond with other students, go to campus concerts, join in sports and just mainly have fun with your friends. The disadvantages are you can have much freedom, you have a curfew, and you can’t party. Off campus you have a lot of freedom. You have privacy and do whatever you want to do. The disadvantages are that you have major responsibilities like paying rent, you don’t see other students until you are back on campus, and that you get compensation but not as much as the ones on campus. To think about it I’m happy that I am a …show more content…
UM professors will make sure that before you graduate you know how to write an essay, even with your eyes close. However, they grading system is different from what I was use to in high school. I use to hate writing but the more I write the more I like it. The professors also are very helpful in showing you new ways to do time management, brainstorming, and helping you achieve. They are very faithful in their work study and giving you a helping hand when you need it. I love that I can tell my problems and they keep it confidential. The professors are a mentor to me especially the major (Elementary Education) that I am in the long haul for. As I watch them teach us I am gaining more confidence in myself. The most important thing to me is that they are

Personally, college is a different environment compared to what high school students are used to. College teaches students to be more independent relying on ourselves to take care of our studies and learning process. Take High School for example. High School teachers will constantly remind students of deadlines for assignments while professors could care less if students missed the deadline. Because college students are considered more “mature”, students are required to manage their own time checking due dates for each class themselves.…
