By me being a commuter (staying off campus), I can’t have that experience of having campus fun. I feel so left out when I see other students talking to each other like they known one another for a long time. Living off campus is very different from staying on campus. Living on campus they have advantages and disadvantages. On campus, you can join in many campus and dorm activities. You get more food compensation which to me is a big advantage. Living on campus you can bond with other students, go to campus concerts, join in sports and just mainly have fun with your friends. The disadvantages are you can have much freedom, you have a curfew, and you can’t party. Off campus you have a lot of freedom. You have privacy and do whatever you want to do. The disadvantages are that you have major responsibilities like paying rent, you don’t see other students until you are back on campus, and that you get compensation but not as much as the ones on campus. UM professors will make sure that before you graduate you know how to write an essay, even with your eyes close. However, they grading system is different from what I was use to in high school. I use to hate writing but the more I write the more I like it. The professors also are very helpful in showing you new ways to do time management, brainstorming, and helping you achieve. They are very faithful in their work study and giving you a helping hand when you need it. I love that I can tell my problems and they keep it confidential. The professors are a mentor to me especially the major (Elementary Education) that I am in the long haul for. As I watch them teach us I am gaining more confidence in myself.
