So much so, that I even temporarily gave up on the prospect of law school. My academics took the largest blow, and as a result, I was placed on Academic Probation. One of the strongest motivators for me to get back on track, both academically and socially, was to realize that being a role model to my fellow fraternity brothers while having a low GPA was in no way justifiable. Our, once full of life, fraternity president was admitted to the hospital as his vital organs were failing. The emotion on the faces of my brothers was that of distress and shock. In the same week, there was an arson attempt on our fraternity house. Within hours of reporting it, the authorities, the emergency services, the university officials, the national fraternity and the media had shown up at our front door. I stepped up to the role of president pro tempore, accessing and managing the situation as best I could. I took it upon myself to help the emergency services run a smooth investigation while at the same time keeping the fraternity morale high and the worries to a minimum. With little to no sleep for about a week, the stress over the arson attempt remained a heavy burden, but I knew that I had done my part.
