When I was 8 years old, my dad made the decision that it was time for us to move to the U.S. where he had been living with my uncle and his family. He said that it was time to build new memories with us and finally have the time to be with us. He told us that being away from us wasn’t something he liked. He wanted to be at our first day of school, birthday’s, Christmas, Mother’s Day and of course Father’s Day. It was impossible to do that if he was in Fort Worth and my mother and I where in Mexico. Basically he wanted us to be a real family and enjoy each other all year around instead of only one month out of the year. When he told us that we were moving with him I was upset because I didn’t understand. I was a little girl and didn’t really think that being together was normal or even important. Life is to short to let ourselves down for people that think they can say and do everything they want without seeing that they can hurt someone’s feelings because of it. I am continuing my education because I want to be someone in life, take advantage of the opportunities that this country has, make my family proud of me and show people like me that anything is possible in this life, if we set our goals in our minds and don’t let anything get to us or not letting anybody ruin it. I’m proud of myself because now I can say that I achieve my goal of understanding and speaking English. It was a long and hard journey, but I can proudly day I did it. You see sometimes we have to focus on our goals and not worry about those who surround us with negativities. Those who want to succeed will only succeed because of there own will.
