Personal Narrative: My Trip To Haines City High School

Improved Essays
The situation I encountered is an experience I will not forget. Today it feels as if it was just yesterday, I went to Haines city high school. I attended the school all four years; I wouldn’t say I was a bad student. I always attended school but when it came to getting serious in class, I took it as a joke back then, I took everything as a joke, life hadn’t hit me yet, I was dumb and I didn’t realize at the time what consequences my actions would have.

For example, senior year, I was eighteen at the time turning nineteen and most students would take senior year as crunch time to get everything done. I had three years of make-up work to do I barley passed any of my classes my senior year I wasn’t even considered a senior due to the fact that I didn’t have the credits required to be a senior. I was down by two credits. I was considered a junior my senior year, once I found that out it completely destroyed me from that point on I didn’t even care about school. Instead of getting my things together, I just went the total opposite. I didn’t do any work in class and when I would do assignments I would be like as if the sky was to fall like Chicken Little. I think when I started doing my work was about a month into school almost ending I didn’t stay like I was supposed to since I was a junior. I left with the seniors; I didn’t go back to school after that. I began to work full time

It quickly went from a nice, fun, vacation to a painful, terrible, nightmare. Before embarking on my high school journey at Sayreville War Memorial High School I was told to join clubs. Sophomore year I attended the September SADD meeting. SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions and it is a club that encourages students to confront the daily risks of living in the world today. The advisor, Ms. Corrales, would always pick an issue in society for each meeting and provide us with the best tools to go about handling the issue. During my sophomore year, she invited me to the NJ Regional Conference with our executive board.…

My time at Barnegat High School has helped me to become who I am today and will most defiantly impact what I will do in the future. The teachers and my peers have all been an influence on my life and during the four years that I spent at the school, I have done some things for the school and the community as a way to thank them for giving me the opportunities that they have. It was they who pushed me to keep trying and striding to succeed and without them, I would not have accomplished what I have today. One of the things that I am most proud of doing is helping to bring new clubs and activities to Barnegat High School. This year, with the help of other students and advisors, a new club made it into the ranks of the diverse sea of clubs and groups that already exist.…

It was a normal Tuesday at good ol’ Freeburg Community High School. Our rambunctious lunch group sat around the table to enjoy the lunch of the day, chili. Now you see, I had brought my lunch, but I wasn’t allowing that stop me from enjoying a steaming bowl of chili. My bowl of chili warmed my hands, heart, stomach, my esophagus when it was occasionally too hot, and eventually my lap. Between all of the jokes and laughter I hadn’t noticed that my hands were shaking a tad more than normal; if I had noticed, I would have done the smart thing and set my bowl down rather than hold it.…

“You must get an education. You must go to school, and you must learn to protect yourself. And you must learn to protect yourself with the pen, and not the gun”(Josephine Baker). Growing up in Southwest Philadelphia and Upper Darby, I have seen a lot of my peers turn their backs on education due to the hardships of their urban school environment. Before attending Wilmington Early College High School (WECHS), I was not satisfied with my personality, nor was I happy with the way I was perceived by other people. Most would think that I should have been confident because in middle school I was in the AIG program. However, I never truly felt satisfied with myself. I always got good grades, but I never felt like I earned good grades. Although I was making straight As and Bs, it was always relatively easy to earn those marks in middle school.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…
