The academic journey I have endured throughout the course of the past 12 years is that it was rich with experience and what had seemed like a ton of hardship. The environments I learned in ranged from an academic setting to a more personal family setting. Although the experiences were quite different in their own way, there were some lessons that were extracted from those experiences that could have served me well in the opposite settings. One of the most successful experiences about my experience as a student was being in 3rd grade and having an advantage of knowing the concepts of multiplication over everyone. When I had begun attending the John Young Elementary school in 1st grade I was the new kid to the class. I had come in during the middle of the year and therefore no one knew me. I vividly remember being neglected by my new peers because they had already formed their own groups of friends from preschool that they viewed me as someone that they couldn’t make room for. At times, I also remember being discriminated against because of my ethnicity. I coped with these struggles by facing them head on, I eventually saw no point in sulking around. I learned to defend myself and speak up with a demeaning voice when necessary. I also learned to make sure that I did not become like those kids and respected everyone as how I would want to be respected. My difficulties in math proved to be a positive contribution in my academic experience. However, in elementary school I despised the concept of subtracting. In middle school I began viewing the subject as a challenge that would feed my pride if I overcame it, which was rarely. As I began high school, my persistence throughout freshmen, sophomore, and junior year eventually led me to be placed in AP Calculus where I had never enjoyed math more. I learned to cope with my difficulty by viewing it as something I would overcome and in the process I learned to love …show more content…
I absolutely love the Chick-fil-A on campus. I enjoy the amount of free time I have for myself to learn things I want, the way I want, without the tests and homework assignments. I prefer it that way, people who genuinely want to make something out of themselves will go out and get the knowledge they want and those that don’t will always have a lifetime job at McDonalds. Professors would describe me as adamant because once I become comfortable within the setting of a new class I get totally serious about the material and grades involved. If I do not understand material then I will make sure I understand the material because my parents are paying for the material to be taught to me. Depending on the professor, they can also describe me as inquisitive because once I am deeply interested in the material then I begin asking questions left and right. Some professors may even describe me as analytical because I really enjoy approaching a situation from various perspectives and examining the causes and effects. I also like having different perspectives shown to me because it’s a new
