The Importance Of Living In The 21st Century

Living in the 21st century consists of moving at light speed and hardly stopping to enjoy the loyal people God placed in your life or the gorgeous Earth surrounding us. This is what I am experiencing as I am currently writing this. I’ve wanted to write this post for weeks, but couldn 't seem to find the time because of my demanding college life. But now, as I sit admiring the ocean waves slowly pushing up the sand I have found the time. So, I want to recall back to June 17 when I took a lovely little journey to Satellite Auto Repair to have my windshield fixed. I walked into Satellite at 7:58 in the morning, frustrated that I was up that early on a Saturday knowing I was going to have to sit in the small, smelly waiting room for what would …show more content…
The expecting mother and I continued our conversation and she began to ask me if it was difficult to be a Christian at a liberal arts college. Well, this is a tough question and we discussed it for quite some time. I won’t go into everything we discussed, but in summary I told her that yes, it is very difficult. There are constantly people putting me down because of my faith or judging me because I don 't want to live a lifestyle of this world. As Colton Dixon nicely put it, “I don 't want to gain the whole world and lose my soul.” So, yes it is difficult to go against the status quo, but it is also incredible. I see more deeply the way that God works in my life and in the other students around me. The challenges have strengthened my walk with Christ because I have to call upon him everyday for strength to withstand the temptations and to be as Christlike as I can be. God has put some amazing people in my life at my little liberal arts college, and allowed grow in the knowledge of my faith because of the people challenging …show more content…
At this point, I had already been waiting for two hours and my friend offered to come pick me up. I decided to wait, I figured it couldn 't take much longer. Our conversation began to die down and then her husband began to speak. He asked me more in-depth questions about my faith and my life. I could see the wheels turning in his eyes and I know he wasn 't just asking out of curiosity. We discussed the Christian lifestyle for about 30 minutes: we mostly spoke about what it means to truly love others even if we don 't agree with them. As a Christian, I am called to be Christlike. This means I am called to love my neighbor whether they are living a Christian life or not, BUT I am also called to stand for Christ. I am called to be just, as Christ is just. So for example, I love my sinning neighbor, but I do not condone his

Most Christians have at times experienced a “crisis of faith” due to new contrasting ideals that may provoke questions (Carroll, 409). Entering college for the first time is a vulnerable time for anyone who has been brought up all their life to think and believe as they are told. College freshman, Alfred Corn, was experiencing this unfortunate crisis. (Carroll, 409) The knowledge we individually obtain throughout our livelihood constantly evolves and adapts to new information and experiences, unfortunately learning too much at times makes us question our current standing beliefs.…

When reading the title of one of the colloquia series, "College Hookup Culture and Christian Ethics", I had a certain preconceived idea of what I would expect from this presentation. Personally, I thought the speaker would be an incredibly devout woman who was going to criticize the ways of college students, because current college norms do go against Catholicism. However, the speaker, Jennifer Beste, was understanding of how our culture has transformed and relayed this information in an insightful way. This was not to say she agreed with this new way of college life, but just that times have truly changed from her years in school. From the culture I have experienced thus far this year, Beste's findings were very accurate.…

Rewind 1950 years. At this time, a movement involving only a handful of nations was gaining strength. A people that were discriminately called Christians were spreading their ideas and experiences. These people were looked down upon, persecuted, and hated by the majority around them. They preached something entirely different than what the rest of the world had heard before: a message of love and grace and acceptance no matter the circumstance.…

Looking back at the memories I 've made and the things that I 've experienced, it 's hard to put those things into words. I look back to where I was a year ago, and it 's amazing how far I 've come. As a college student, one has the ability to make their own decisions and learn more about themselves. Growing up in a strict household, I was never able to question my religious status without being viewed negatively by my peers. Since my mother and father were both Christians, I was forced to follow the same path and live a predetermined lifestyle. Months later after becoming a college student at Winthrop University, I found myself questioning my self-worth since I was never actually given the opportunity to make my own decisions growing up. During the second semester of my college career, I decided to step outside of my religious comfort zone and explore other religions with the hopes of discovering my own religious beliefs.…

College My childhood was crazy and full of extreme changes; in a period of only three years, my life changed completely. These changes ranged widely starting when my childhood house burned down on my seventh birthday, to a series of subsequent moves , to my parents’ divorce, to moving over two thousands miles to Illinois with my mom and sister after almost a decade of living in New York, ending with my dad passing away when I was only eleven. (Clean up this sentence, seems a bit long). After those few years, I became an extreme creature of habit, afraid of change and the unknown that comes with making new, different decisions: regardless of how small the decisions may be.…
