Essex Care Observation

On February 3rd, 2016 I went to the Essex County Welfare Department. Essex County is located in the northeastern part of the state of New Jersey (essexcounty.org, 2016). There, I completed an observation on the atmosphere, the diverse population entering the facility, how the staff reacted to their customers, and gave careful consideration on somethings this division could enhance. This paper will include a detailed overview of my experience when visiting this department.
I decided to car pool with one of my classmates because I was told parking was very limited. Once we arrived to downtown Newark, My classmate and I could not find any parking less a block from the building. We had to park about four blocks from the place and pay a meter.

There were two security guards present at the front doors. At first one security guard (male) was standing up and the other (female) was sitting down at the edge of a empty table. The male soon joined the lady at the table where she was sitting. Within two minutes of being inside the female answered her cell phone with no hesitation. While I was standing there I wondered why they didn’t greet us. We stood at the entrance for about three minutes. During that time the male security eventually started using his phone as well. To me we seemed lost and I expected them to ask us if they could be of any assistance. Unfortunately they did not and we decided to walk toward the direction where we saw people coming from. They were coming out of big blue doors and down steps to exit where we came in at.
As we went to walk up the steps they informed us that we were supposed to go outside and come in another entrance. We had to walk up a ramp on the outside of the building into a side door. Luckily there was a blue tent covering us from the rain following the ramp. We approached about five security guards and one metal detector inside. They instructed us to remove some clothing and any electronics and place them on the conveyer. We walked through the metal detector and grabbed our

The two boys appeared to be African American and the girl Hispanic. I wondered which person standing in line they belonged to. I started to listen to their conversation. To my surprise, they started speaking Spanish. The little girl that was with them started whining and they were trying to figure out what she wanted. One of the boys got up and went to the line to tell the adult they came with. She told the boy to save her spot in the line and came over to the other boy and handed the girl a bottle. The boy sitting down rocked the baby in the car seat with his foot while the baby continued sleeping. The lady went back to her spot in line and the boy came back and sat down. In the meantime there were two Hispanic ladies arguing about what assistance they qualified for. They weren’t too loud but I’m sure if I could hear them others could as well. A mother with five kids soon entered. I would assume they were ages ranging from three to seven. She had all the boys sit on the floor against the wall while she took the girls into the woman’s bathroom. Her three boys were left

My first stop on the hunt for government offices and or buildings in Snyder is the Scurry County Courthouse. I had no problem finding this building due to how it's located in the center of town and all the main roads lead to the "square" where the Courthouse is located. Lainey, Ellis and I met at the building so we could take pictures for each other around 5:42 p.m. and there was no one in the parking lot except our own cars, but there was a bit of business due to people getting off work. The Courthouse is surrounded by various boutiques and a business that serves ice cream and coffee.…
