My Experience At The End Of High School Essay

When I was presented with career choices at the end of high school, teaching was not one of my interests, as a matter fact, my choices were: pediatrician, vet and English major. However, I found myself moving to the United States and marrying the love of my life at the age of 18 – this is when it all changed. After being in the United States for about a year, a friend of mine contacted me to let me know about a job opening to help non-native English speakers to learn English. I was very hesitant at first. I wasn’t sure if I should apply for a job that required me to teach others English when I myself was trying to overcome the barrier of the language. Despite my doubts I decided to apply for this position. I was very surprised when I received a call for an interview, and even more surprised when I was hired. I was terrified and at the same time excited. I started tutoring English Language Learners (ELL) students and quickly find myself falling in love with this profession. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of my big adventure. Not too long after I started working as an ELL tutor I found the joys of helping children overcome barriers. The feelings I felt when my students had that AHA moment was and still is indescribable. Why do I want to teach? I want to teach to help non-English speaker to overcome the language barrier. I want to make a difference in the life of so many people who moved to the United States of America with hopes of a better life. I want…
