AAU Basketball Journey

An experience to me is something that is unforgettable, that one thing that means a little extra to you and something that will have a lasting effect on you. I travel in reverse to the little girl standing in the mirror and daydreaming of one day becoming not only an amazing basketball player, but a great person in general as well. I watched and mimicked Allen Iverson on the tv to the best of my abilities as my brother did, then I grew. It all started for me at a young age and I began using my talents right from the get go. I pursued a new journey in ninth grade to better myself as an individual, and a basketball player. That journey was called AAU. AAU basketball is something that will always have a very special place in my heart. I will …show more content…
I focus a lot on school, because I know without it there 's literally nothing. Freshman year I locked in, and probably not the same what others do, or the way I should, but I started focusing on furthering my career in the sport that means most to me, basketball. Ever since I was little I 've watched people play basketball, and I always told myself, "wow I hope that I can be like that someday." But as you get older it really starts to hit you in a completely different manner. Like am I going to do this when I get older or not? So, I decided to take it to the next level and say that I was going to. Eventually, it lead to an extremely long process of figuring out how the AAU basketball (which is a spring/ summer basketball league) process worked. It was very confusing and hard to get used to at first, but after about a month it got easy. The hardest part was choosing an organization to play for, and I was lucky enough to find an amazing program called the Minnesota …show more content…
During my time playing AAU basketball so many memories were made. They weren 't just your typical memories though, they were memories I’ll never forget. One of my favorite memories of AAU was during my last year. We went bowling at three different bowling alleys in one day. The first bowling alley was half bowling and half laser tag. My team and another Comets team decided to play laser tag against each other, and of course my team won. As we walked over to the bowling alley, the scent of deep fried food lingered around us. Our blue mouths were filled with laughter from the slushies we ate. As I paused, I took a minute to think of how charmed I was to be enclosed by such stellar girls. As we moved on from bowling alley to bowling alley, more memories were made, giggles were shared, and time seemed as if it was standing still. It may seem like one of the most silly, and pointless things ever, but the time spent with each other was the most enjoyable moments

As well as my passion for sports, I grew into my passion for service; service for others and for my school, partaking in clubs and community service activities, each endeavor playing a role in the development of my abilities and expansion of my potential…

Heartbreak and hours of crying–that was the aftermath of finding out I didn’t make the travel basketball team in the fifth grade. I started playing recreational basketball for Montville in the third grade; since then, I had dominated the competition as I hit my growth spurt earlier than most of my friends. Not only was I taller than most of the kids I played with, but I was also faster and stronger. Coming into the tryout, I was confident in my abilities and believed that I would make the team. Upon finding out the results of the tryouts, I was devastated and felt cheated because I thought I was better than some of the kids that made the team.…

“Game Day” isn’t a regular day at Xavier University of Louisiana; it’s a day for Xavier’s Golden Nugget’s to defend their pride, while we cast our wide angel lens towards the basketball court, capturing the engulfing reflection pool in all of its pride. Athletics are a big part to most universities and students’ life. Either they love to participate or some love to go and cheer their peers and colleagues on. I learned this while working at a Xavier’s Women basketball game. I wanted to see my fellow students in a less stressed atmosphere, rather than a classroom. My interest was also peaked because I watched basketball games in high school…

I was a huge OSU fan, and this was one of OSU’s best basketball teams in the program's history. My favorite player was Tony Allen, and when I was sitting on the bench waiting for players to come out and for practice to start, Tony Allen was the first one out of the locker room and sat down right by me. I was so excited I had to intentionally slow my talking down so I didn’t scare him off with all of my questions. After practice the team got together at center court and signed a basketball for me, it was one of the best times I had as a kid.…

Starting off I didn’t take the sport seriously; I always played it as a hobby and cared less about its rules. Practicing summer after summer I realized there is more to the game than just throwing the ball into the hoop. I was disappointed in myself because I spent two hundred and fifty dollars on my basketball shoes and didn’t even get a chance to showcase them in an expedition game.…
