Personal Narrative: Becoming A Nurse

My second alarm blares, tearing me from my private world. I squint at the clock and sigh; it’s six forty-five already. I save my work and close my word document, then climb out of my chair and grab my empty mug to deposit it in the kitchen sink. I’ve only been awake an hour and a half, but I’ve done most of my personal work for the day.
Getting up at five in the morning used to be a chore, but now I look forward to it. With my schedule, it’s one of the only times I can devote wholly to writing. Morning by morning, I piece together short stories and novels that’ll never see the light of day. A man named Malcolm Gladwell once wrote that it takes ten thousand hours of deliberate practice to master something, and, while not backed by science, I

For example, if I hadn’t started writing fiction that examined problems in society, I might’ve missed the opportunities that have arisen to help fix them in my community, and, without my connection to community service, I might’ve missed my practical calling in life: becoming a nurse.
Writing has also played a major part in my best high school experience. There have been only a handful of moments in my life where everything has fallen away and my path forward has been perfectly clear, and the first was during my sophomore year. As a new initiate of Beta Club, I decided to prove that I belonged by competing at the state competition. I signed up for the short story competition and started scribbling away every moment of my free time. When I signed up, I had two months to write a story. By the time I

But, I’m not satisfied with the bare-minimum experience. If I’m going to succeed the way I want to be able to, college is a time where I have to make connections, learn outside the borders of the typical classroom, and take courses that challenge me not only as a student but as a person. To truly grow, I need to be in the Honors College. But, ask not what your country can do for you, right? As a student in the Honors College, I would bring discipline, diversity, and passion into the program. I’ve always been a hard worker, and my drive would only increase if I knew I was part of a program that celebrated it. That, coupled with my passion, would be infectious. In the program, I hope to find peers that not only inspire me to be my best but are open to being inspired themselves. Besides all-around inspiration, I hope to open a few minds. As an LGBT student, I believe I have a viewpoint of the world that the majority doesn’t share, but college is a place where students should strive to become global citizens, and, believe it or not, LGBT people exist in the world. I could be a source of information for those who want to learn more about the community, and a practice in tolerance for those who

As a future register nurse and as a woman I feel that a have a tremendous responsibility to give back to my community. I believe that one of the most forgotten populations in our community is the elderly, and as a society we have so much to learn from them and to thank them for what they did in the past. I strongly believe that if I could make some positive changes I would decide to do them to influence some senior citizens’ lives and to change their isolation for companion and thankfulness. I would advocate for the elderly with our authorities and I would request a budget to build a clinic to provide preventive health care services for them. I would designate a budget to build a nursing home for the elderly that do not have a place to…

When I was a child and a lot of times during my adolescence I had several moments of indecision about the things that I wanted. From the simplest to the most complicated. And although it was hard to choose what to write or what flavor of ice cream to buy, I was always sure of one thing: I like to help people. That's why I chose nursing as my career to college because this was a way I found to realize my dream; being able to help my fellow man when he needs it most. I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect. I invested hours in their office whenever I visited my aunt in the moments of her surgery or to pick up her medicines. Few years later, I had been volunteering at a local hospital, this made me fully realize the hard work nurses put in their work line. My overall experience with the nurses that I encountered was positive. In my senior of high school, I took a course on health and human anatomy.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. That was my first time on this side of the hemisphere. With little money, zero friends, one close relative and little to hold on to, I found myself leaning on only a thread of asset – my mind. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…

Everyone has a destiny, something they are meant to do with their lives. Charles Bukowski, author of “so you want to be a writer?” believes that if you have got it, you got it. We should look for our natural talent instead of doing something we do not have a passion for. In his lyric poem, which is a lyric not because of its sound but because of its emotion, Bukowski expresses the themes of natural talent and that if it is right, you won’t have to try. We should not do something we do not enjoy, but something that comes natural that comes from the heart.…

On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon after school, I was able to take a peek into my future. I have always been excited to become a nurse since I decided that this will be my major, and on that Wednesday I was able to experience this first hand. At my mother’s work, Behavioral Healthcare Partners, I was lucky enough to be sent to work in their medical office. Not only did I have an unbelieveable mixture of nerves and excitement during this experience, but I also learned a lot my first, second, and third day here working in the medical department. I felt my heart racing as I entered the medical building at Behavioral Healthcare Partners as I was about to see what the rest of my life may be centered around.…
