Getting up at five in the morning used to be a chore, but now I look forward to it. With my schedule, it’s one of the only times I can devote wholly to writing. For example, if I hadn’t started writing fiction that examined problems in society, I might’ve missed the opportunities that have arisen to help fix them in my community, and, without my connection to community service, I might’ve missed my practical calling in life: becoming a nurse.
Writing has also played a major part in my best high school experience. There have been only a handful of moments in my life where everything has fallen away and my path forward has been perfectly clear, and the first was during my sophomore year. As a new initiate of Beta Club, I decided to prove that I belonged by competing at the state competition. But, I’m not satisfied with the bare-minimum experience. If I’m going to succeed the way I want to be able to, college is a time where I have to make connections, learn outside the borders of the typical classroom, and take courses that challenge me not only as a student but as a person. To truly grow, I need to be in the Honors College. But, ask not what your country can do for you, right? As a student in the Honors College, I would bring discipline, diversity, and passion into the program. I’ve always been a hard worker, and my drive would only increase if I knew I was part of a program that celebrated it. That, coupled with my passion, would be infectious. In the program, I hope to find peers that not only inspire me to be my best but are open to being inspired themselves. Besides all-around inspiration, I hope to open a few minds. As an LGBT student, I believe I have a viewpoint of the world that the majority doesn’t share, but college is a place where students should strive to become global citizens, and, believe it or not, LGBT people exist in the world. I could be a source of information for those who want to learn more about the community, and a practice in tolerance for those who
