Growing up, my dad taught me many things. He taught me how to ride my bike, tie my shoes, how to set a table and so much more. Out of all the lessons I’ve learned there is one thing that always stays with me: Don’t drive when you’re upset. Coming from a family with three older siblings, all four of us were taught this same rule. When my dad taught me this lesson, I was learning to drive at the age of seventeen. At the time, I understood the lesson but I never truly grasped it all until August 30, 2015.
It was a Saturday night and music filled the air. My older sister had invited me to Dallas to meet her new significate other and to take me to my first dance club. We danced all night till our feet were hurt but, 2am came around so it was time to go home. My sister was driving with her friend in the front

The sister of the woman ended up telling us and the police that the young lady went out to meet a guy and they ended up getting in a big fight. Out of anger, the woman went back to her car and sped away. Although she was extremely upset, she had previously taken her medication with alcohol which could have cause her to lose control of her car. Regardless, I thought back to what my father had told me. After the police took my statement and my phone number I never heard anything more about that woman. I never heard if she survived or died but I will never forget that lifeless look in her eyes, the cries from the family and the fear that is now engraved in my mind. I would never want anyone to go through what I did. My sister’s friend and I both have medical experience but going through that was like living in a nightmare. Don’t drive when your upset, just walk away and regroup. When your upset, you aren’t thinking normally, which could lead to something bad to happen. So please, don’t drink and drive or drive while you’re upset. It isn’t worth it to you, your family or the people around
