Reflective Essay: What I Learned While Attending College

Throughout the past two months I feel that I have grown a lot in my studies. The first week or so I was anxious about classes and meeting new people and attempting to adjust to living on my own for the next 4 or so months. But I quickly learned that once I got settled in, it wasn’t as bad, or as hard, as I thought it would be. Sure some of my classes challenge me but I knew that would happen going in and I wasn’t too worried about that. I was more worried about what I would be doing outside of class, such as meeting new people and prioritizing my time so that I am able to get things done in a timely manner. I feel that I have adjusted well and am not so nervous about attending college anymore. I feel that I have achieved some good things in my academic career while attending Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. I am taking Calculus 1 this year and am doing well. Although I had previously taken it in High School and done decent, I did not have the grade that I wanted in High School. And because my major is so math oriented, the academic advisors suggested that I take Calculus 1 again even though I didn’t need to take it. As of right now I have a 100 average in Calculus and I am extremely proud of that because I now completely grasp everything that is being taught. I feel that having taken it in High School has definitely …show more content…
One of which is the overwhelmingly large amounts of free time I have. With only 3 hours of class a day and your mom not there telling you to do your homework, it can be easy to fall behind. I had to learn this the first couple of weeks. However, I feel that I have made a good adjustment. One thing I do now that I have never done is I write all of my assignments down when I get them. I usually enter them into my phone so that I will know what homework I have so that I don’t forget about it. I feel that this is the biggest obstacle that I have faced thus

Ever since I was small, I always dreamed about playing college football and it finally came to reality. Fall camp was getting ready to start, and I was so excited to get my senior season started. I put in so much work and effort to get into the position I was in, so I was not going to let my team down.…

I thought that it was going to be hard adjusting because I’ve always had a hard time adjusting to new people, new surroundings and all new things. I’m getting myself mentally prepared for whatever comes my way, especially from President Sorrell because he’s about business, and I know that he wants the best out of me. I just am going into next week with a different head on my shoulders and I’m ready to focus on my work 100%. I was most concerned with the fact that Cristo Rey didn’t really, overall, prepare me for college so it’s my duty to step up and get things done. This first week of college has been really difficult for me with the work load and the many projects we’ve already been assigned in this week alone, although they might not be due…

The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

The very thing that I had spent four years trying to achieve was essentially achieved in a couple of hours. I never did receive a high school diploma, but I did receive its equivalent. If I would have known I would pass on my first attempt, I might have completely avoided high school and taken my GED sooner. This would have afforded me with time to achieve other goals. I remember someone telling me that the GED test was harder to pass than graduating high school.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. My first semester of college has been an intersting learning experience. It has been full of ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot since being in college, mostly how to take charge of my life and get my priorities straight. I learned that being successful in college depends on how you prioritize your work and how serious you take it. At first my priorities weren 't where they were supposed to be, and I realized my grades were going to suffer if I did not change.…

I was born in Germany with a German mother and an American father. The benefit of being born into a German family and living in Europe for the first ten years of my life was the greatest privilege I experienced throughout my sixteen years of living. However, my father was in the military at the time causing for a slight pressure to always be prevalent for the duration of my younger years. This mainly revolved around the fact that my sister was able to grow up in Germany and I wanted that same opportunity. Soon after these aspirations were formed, they became mere dreams that never would be fulfilled because my dad was given orders to either move to Mississippi or Oklahoma, which both deemed to be the middle-of-nowhere.…
