By coating our device in a waterproof sealant, it reduces the cleaning process and extends the lifecycle of the device. Since Tablemate must be cleaned every day, to prevent any rusting with the metal parts of the device that may occur over time, we used high quality materials in the construction process. All the metal parts in the final design are zinc plated which add an extra protection against any rusting. Thus, the total cost of the device with the resources available to us is approximately $80, this price is necessary to provide a luxurious, clean, and safe environment which is essential at St. Peter residence. After many different design alternative and feedback from the IMPAC program, VitalTech produced an ideal device to solve St. Peter’s problem. By extending the dining surface, both vertically and horizontally reduced the collisions of the footrest with other wheelchairs, as well as allows residents with elevated armrest sit on any table they desired. Overall Tablemate provides a realistic solution to the residents and most importantly gives them the freedom to easily enjoy their meals wherever they want, with who they want
