My Experience At Queen's University

I have always been a curious individual. Dating back to my childhood I was always intrigued as to how the components of my environment interact. As I matured my interests narrowed to the field of biological science, more specifically health and cellular science. Queen’s University shares my passion for scientific discovery as evident through the prestigious research being conducted. Furthering my education in a facility where influential research is taking place provides the opportunity to collaborate with the foremost individuals in my field of interest. Moreover, due to their innovative research, Queen’s University is equipped with technologically advanced laboratories allowing for the ability to test one’s own ideas. I strongly believe in engaging oneself in the community will result in the positive unifying effects of collaboration. Locally, I take part in many volunteer activities that serve to better our environment. Inn From the Cold, for example, is a program that provides homeless families with meals, shelter, and access to other amenities. Through this experience I have come to recognize the importance of interacting with others to understand the challenges they face, as it broadens one’s perspective and allows for deeper comprehension of one’s environment. Within a school setting, the participation in various clubs and teams generates a sense of community and family that would otherwise be lost. Presently, I am participating in many high school events; these include the soccer team and the grad fashion show. My contributions to the soccer team and grad fashion show have highlighted my leadership and collaborative skills. Specifically, over the course of the grad fashion show I was encouraged to both sell tickets and collect door prizes from local businesses. I was able to procure a contribution from the bakery Cobs Bread, demonstrating both leadership and collaboration. Moving forward into life at Queen’s I intend to remain involved in the school environment by participating in the numerous clubs offered, or founding clubs I believe would benefit the student body. I embody a number of qualities the Queen’s community desires. Significantly, I strive to achieve excellence in all aspect of my life. This is evident through exceptional marks I receive in school, as well as through the positive comments of both teachers and peers. Additionally, over the years I have developed leadership and communication through my participation in coaching soccer. Therefore, I will positively impact Queen’s University and the surrounding community of Kingston through the

Cutting precisely on the lines, making sure I didn’t stray and accidently cut out part of an article, I carefully extracted the Sudoku puzzle from the daily newspaper before my father came to the breakfast table to read it. Then, working as fast as I could, I began deciphering the puzzle, eliminating numbers I knew didn’t belong in a certain box and writing, in tiny print, all the numbers that could potentially fit. Gradually, as the pieces came together, the completed puzzle unfolded. I glanced at the clock, scarfed down my cereal (which had gone soggy), and raced out the door just in time to catch the bus. During my hour long bus ride to school I would reflect on how I had solved the puzzle, wondering if there was a better way to approach…

Since attending Spelman College, I have evolved as a person mentally and socially, especially in my efforts regarding volunteering and the production of social change. Before attending Spelman and joining Lady Buds, a mentoring program for young underprivileged girls, I understood to a degree, how social change impacts people and their communities. However, after being a part of Lady Buds, my understanding of social change vastly increased, specifically how it affects the communities within Atlanta and on a larger scale our society. Upon entering Spelman college, I knew I wanted to be involved with a mentoring group, and while there was a multitude of groups to choose from, I decided on Lady Buds because their mission statement resonated with my goal before entering Spelman College.…

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

From a young age the significance of academics and the related commitment has been a top priority, my current rank of 15 representation of this fervor. Education is undoubtedly one of the best things one can ever receive and as one devoted to this idea, I intend on not only improving my own academics, but stimulating improvement within others. Character wise, I like to think of myself as supportive, confident, and open to countless opinions—qualities I believe create a worthy leader. Spending time outside of school to benefit others as well as the objectives of NHS does not hinder me, as I am a staunch supporter of dedication. Ultimately, my presence in NHS will enable my qualities as a leader, person, and grades to better as I will be entirely committed to the cause, encouraging my being as a whole as well as those around…

“Thank you.” This was the simple yet meaningful response a patient’s husband gave to the emergency physician as I observed from the corner of the room. It was determined through a plethora of laboratory studies and clinical intuition that the patient was suffering from hepatorenal syndrome, secondary to her battle with metastatic colorectal cancer that spread to her liver. Her husband knew the prognosis, but this time she would be unable to recover. Despite the manic pace of the emergency department, Dr. Gregg took time to carefully explain the patient’s situation.…

We spent a whole day at my school doing simple tasks such as garden cleaning, moving old furniture, covering graffiti, repainting old walls and stairwells. In the end, volunteering had a huge impact not only on me but also the community around me. It enabled me to connect with my community and make my school a better place. I realized that helping out with the simplest and smallest tasks can make a drastic difference in society. If we were to lose physical space, people would surrender their desire to obtain public good.…

I have always found enjoyment in discovering obscure and unusual facts about the body, then going onto tell others about my discovery. For this reason, biology has always had a magnetic effect on me. I find it incredible how life is in essence just a combination of molecules which then come together to create another more complex molecule, and so on, eventually leading to an organism as complex as the human body. Studying biology to A2-Level, I have been introduced to biological processes which I had previously not heard of.…
